Over at the European PlayStation.Blog, SCEE Social Media Manager Jem Alexander was able to get a small question and answers session with producer, Yoshinori Kitase, and director, Motomu Toriyama regarding Final Fantasy XIII. As you know we’ll be exactly a month away from the western release as soon as the clock hits midnight.

Length in role-playing games should always be long, and that’s what Final Fantasy XIII is doing. According to Square, the basic playtime is about “50 to 60 hours” with about “10 hours” of cutscenes in total. There’s side-quests, which they call “missions”, as well not included in the basic playtime. Square says with that, “the total time is probably twice that or more.” That’s 100-120 hours, then.

Unfortunately, for replayists, there’s no “New Game+”, Square explaining that “there is no way to start the game again with your current character stats.”

Hopefully they have nailed the combat system this time as i wasnt impressed with FFXII's.

Not too sure about the new Final Fantasy, although it looks great I'm still bitter at Square Enix for deciding against making it PS3 exclusive.

I spent all that money on a machine which plays hardly anything. :'(

I just hope those sidequests aren't a bunch of copy & paste missions, where you collect items & flip switches with some random battles scattered around to just fill up the empty space.

Well I'm satisfied with my PS3 purchase. I still have to get LBP, Heavenly Sword, Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted 1, etc.. then there's GoW3, Heavy Rain, and GT5 to look forward to. :ninja: there's plenty of games.

I'm sorry to say this, but that is most likely what it will be. Something like "Kill 20 of this monster to protect this town" and then after that "Oh my, they've come back! This time, kill 40!"

There isn't any way they would be able to write in 50+ Hours of sidequest gameplay without any repetition.

I was being over the top, there isn't any way you could get me to trade my PS3 in for a 360, something renowned for it's limited reliability.

Having both at the same time however has been starting to sound appealing as each day passes.

Maybe, but if BioWare managed to pull it off with Mass Effect 2 in 3 years, I don't see why S-E wouldn't be able to with 4-5 years of development and this being their most hyped & special game to date.

Well yeah, if you only have one console of this generation then you're missing out. :(
