For want of a discussion...
So, i just noticed how dead this place has been lately. Nothing gets people talking like a good discussion though so here goes:
I was talking to a friend a few nights back about a recent occurence in (american) football. An all-time record setting player, Michael Vick, was charged with running a large illegal dog fighting gambling business. Pretty much a kingpin of the business by the time they caught him. Although his cousins were running the actual business and he was just supplying funds for the profit gained from the gambling. Not that this excuses him.
Since then, he's done his time in jail and paid for every dog in the business to be rehabilitated and sent to new homes...even though some could not recover to normality. He also participated in a prison league. Now he's out, he's paid all he has and has plead bankruptcy to the court. He has done a lot of participation in supporting animal rights, and has done several speeches and seminars.
He then got traded to the Philadelphia Eagles (my hometeam) and everyone couldn't be more discontent. Philadelphia already has a pretty bad reputation, as it has the highest murder rate in the country (at least one murder on average a day). There is also evidense that the dog fighting in the state has gone up 400% since he was signed to the Eagles.
Do you think he deserves to play? Do you think that something like that can be forgivable after punishment judged in a court?
here's the story as posted on wikipedia:
