French?

Ok, so I'm trying to write this song, and I think, "You know, a French phrase might sound good in there." So I'm looking for French quotes, but the only ones I can find are too long, or in English, and most of them don't relate to the subject matter.

So I'm asking does anyone here speak French? I could use a translator, but I'd rather have the correct phrase than a word by word translation.

Re: French?

I don't but it's really weird, because my Grandma, who is Vietnamese can speak French, fluently. I think it's part of the French invading Vietnam thing, but it's just really cool that she can speak French.

I think that she can secretly speak English too, because some times when I try to find something, I shout in English and she is like, "Oh, you're looking for this? (in Vietnamese)" and hands it to me...

Re: French?

Well then, could you ask her for a seven syllable phrase relating to the French Revolution, or something similar, that ends with an "ee" syllable?

Re: French?

I don't have anything specific in mind. Something to do with corruption, revolution, etc. 6 or 7 syllables, ending in ee.

Maybe something from a revolutionary or something. I really don't know what will fit until I know the French translation. Something personal from her might be nice, if she lived through the French occupation of Vietnam.

Re: French?

How about this:

Vivent longtemps la révolution mon ami !

Seeing as the ' i ' at the end of 'ami' makes a double ' e ' sound then that is something
I would definitely recommend m8.

It means: Long live the Revolution my Friend !

Hope that helps for your song ! ;)

Re: French?

It doesn't really fit, tbh. I'm after something relating more to the reasons behind the revolution, more than the revolution per se. Also, a few syllables shorter.

I appreciate the assistance, though.

Re: French?

That would work, but unfortunately I could get done for plagiarism.

Re: French?

Not to worry Arseface, I am comptetent in French. I took 3 years of it in high school and got A+'s each year.

Re: French?

^ is that fair dinkum? I never can really tell with you.

Re: French?

Because it's already got a line in it. Not to mention the fact that it wont really sound right if I string a sentence across one and a half lines.

Re: French?

It's ok, I think I'll probably scrap this song anyway. This thread can be closed.
