Could explain why your damage is lame- if you dont get the clues you dont get the augmentable frying pan... never thought I would hear myself say that one... augmentable frying pan... closest I always figured to that one would be Jamie Olivers new non stick tefal heat conducting thingy.... with rings....

I think you only get it when you kill the last of the assassins- have you killed all four of them?

There are specific assassins who attack you at specific areas of the game, after Twinblades people put out a hit on you, as you know- windmill, knothole glade, hook coast and cant remember where the other one is.... if you kill them the last one should yield the final treasure clue.
