every time I go into the store all there is, is a book called pretty on the inside, how do I buy FURNITURE instead?

It's because the towns economy is five stars. It's a known glitch, it should be taken care of in this mythical PATCH that may or may not ever come.

Exactly the same for me, I've been wondering what's going on. Are there any other furniture shops?

There has to be as the Furniture Shop is not labeled as 'unique' like the Bookstore is. I think there is one in Bloodstone, but I could be wrong.

There is a furniture store in Bloodstone. You can also go postal on Bowerstone Market and drop the Economy to 1 star, yeah you get lots of evil points but it does reset the economy and then you'll have the furniture back in stock. Though I've noticed that even if the economy is 5 stars in bloodstone the furniture store doesn't have the same glitch as the one in Bowerstone.
