GAHHHH!!!

GOD DAMMIT!!! This is the worst day of my freakin life!! First off, I go to pick up my reserved copy of fable II from Gamestop and throw away the receipt because im SURE im not going to return it (plus it just got lost in my wifes shopping bags somewhere) and THEN i get home and realize theres no free Xbox Live trial card or DLC card in the box anywhere. Not behind the CD's. Not in/behind the instruction book. So i go online and learn that there are some copies that were shipped without it. Now im worried im not going to get my DLC because I lost/threw away the receipt. BUT THE WORST THING is that after completing the childhood/first adult quest and getting all psyched to get into the real game my ****ing xbox throws me the "overheating" two-left-red-ring deal and it wont turn back on without it even after an hour of cooling!! I even tried leaving it on my porch (its like 40 degrees out) for 30 minutes to cool it. This is ****ed!! I bought the thing over a year ago, i dont know WHERE the **** the receipt is, and im pretty sure im going to have to pay for the goddamn repair if I get one. Anyone have any tips for this dire situation??

And it just HAS to happen 5 minutes after I drink a red bull at 2 AM in full preparation for some all-night gaming action. Its been 3 1/2 hours and the light still hasnt gone away. HELP!!!

Re: GAHHHH!!!

i feel for ya...i really feel for ya, at least you have...your health? :( I'll pray for you.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Actually I dont have my health. Im on SSDI (hence the reason why I have no life and play 360 all day and night). At least im not... homeless?

Re: GAHHHH!!!

I've heard if your put a towel in the dryer for 5min or so and wrap it around the base of the xbox, that can jump start it. I know it warms it up but this is just something that I have read.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Gotcha. Trying this now. (everyone pray for me) If it doesnt work its almost 6am so i can yell my head off at customer support.

And whats weird is, as far as I can tell, the xbox is room temperature or maybe even cooler (and was when it originally failed) and the air blowing out of it is like that of a regular fan.

Just so we're clear, the base meaning put the towel under the xbox or wrap it all around the sides? (I dont want to block off the vents and make it worse). Also, sorry for my storm of posts.

Tried the towel trick, no go. The lights on the left are red as soon as I turn the console on. The power light in the center, however, remains green.

Sounds like you have had one quite eventful day and not in the good way. However if its still under warranty (which it should be after only 1 year) you can register for a repair on Xbox.com (if its in your area). Saves you talking to anyone and its very fast, they will just get you to arrange a pick up with UPS or someone and print the delivery labels off yourself. You dont need any proof of purchase to get it repaired in this way.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Awesome, the only problem is I bought it used at gamestop =/. How much does it cost for a repair?

And what am i supposed to do until I get it back? spend time with my wife and loved ones? WTF?!??!

Doesnt matter where you bought the console at all just go to Xbox.com and go here:

Xbox.com - Services

Will ask you to enter your serial number and check warranty status. If its in warranty which it should be as Microsoft extended them to 3 years then just register it on there and follow the steps. It wont cost you a thing at all to be repaired or sent off if everything is ok with Warranty and area your in. Should also be back in around 7-11 days. Took 6 days for mine to come back and it was sent for free from England to repair centre in Germany and back.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

My two options are to go to this site now and send it in for repairs TODAY - therefore getting it back sooner - or keeping the system off for like 3 or 4 hours as the microsoft site recommends and if its still failing send it in tomorrow. Im leaning towards just sending it in again because I have a feeling its just going to keep happening.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

I just found the receipt and i bought it oct 30th 2007. WOOHOO!! BUT - if i exchange it for a new console, wont i lose all my saved games? they are all on the hard drive - I dont own any of the memory cards - or will they give me one of those transfer cables and allow me to transfer my data and bring back the old hard drive later (or do it in the store)?

Id say send it off as if its happened once chances are it will overheat again. If its still happening after a couple of hours then it wont just go away.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Well ****ing great. I try to register the device so I can start the repair process but the MS service site gives me this message:

A problem occurred, and your request cannot be completed.

And I cant register my 360. Im using the correct serial number, im sure about that. I guess Ill just call at 9am (i found out it was 9am, not 6am, because im on eastern time) and set it up. **** ****ity ****. This whole things got me in a twist.

Sure you entered all the details correctly and such? Took me around 10mins to complete the whole process and organise the collection and print the labels. Hardest part was finding a box to package it in so it wouldnt get bashed around in transit. Instead of following my link go to Xbox.com your usual way (might have tried to take you to UK site for some reason with my link).

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Entered everything crystal clear and correct, positive its the right serial number (I tried every possible number on the Xbox, even the numbers that werent 12 digits, even though the site insisted that the serial was 12 digits). I have finally settled on the one and only 12 digit number thats on the xbox and im positive its the serial number (as the site showed me a picture of the printout on the back of the xbox with the location of the serial number, and this is it) and im still getting this message. Its telling me to call which ill do later after a few hours of playing DMC4 on PS3 to cool off (at least my PS3 is dependable, fable II or not). So ill be back in a few hours with updates (not that anyone probably cares). Thanks for everyones help =)

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Glad to hear it's sorted now, whenever my xbox breaks...i take it back to the store, and ask to keep my hard drive...always works :))) Shoulda tried that!

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Oooh!! I havnt sent it in yet so I may do just that! Im going to try that today and ill let you guys know the results. Ill either ask to keep my hard drive or swap it out with the one on the new xbox. I have no idea why they wouldnt take a defective xbox with a perfect blank harddrive rather than a defective xbox with a full and possibly defective harddrive but thats what they said on the phone (that they wouldn't keep my savegames and if i were to swap it i HAD to keep their new blank harddrive). Thanks!!!

Re: GAHHHH!!!

The worst thing that could happen to me is that fable 2 wont work when i get it.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

Well I finally broke and just thought **** it, im not waiting for the repairs to finish (they told me THREE WEEKS) and bestbuy wouldnt let me swap the hard drives so i cracked and bought a 360 elite, after I transfer the drive info (do they sell the transfer wires seperately??? and if so how much? I need them desperately because until then Ill have to use the 20gb HDD in my elite, or perhaps I could buy a few memory cards and transfer all my game saves because thats all I really care about) and give my old 20gb xbox once it comes back to my wife, which will be cool because we and other friends can play co-op without split screen and with added benefits that couch co-op doesnt offer in some games.

I always thought the transfer cable came with the Elite, id ask them as see or see if you can get it thrown into the deal.

Re: GAHHHH!!!

I asked 'em and they said they dont sell the transfer cables nor does anyone else, and it doesnt come with any accessory but a brand new 120GB separate hard drive. They told me to contact microsoft and maybe I can get one for a price.
