The other day I was thinking to myself, what if such and such developer finally got around to continuing that long forgotten franchise that used to be so good, or what if they just brought it back? I know there have been developers that have done this already, but only a few have done it right, while others have completely botched the process (e.g. Golden Axe, Bionic Commando, Sonic The Hedgehog etc). A lot of important factors go into making a faithful yet highly enjoyable sequel/reboot of a series, but hypothetically speaking, let's say without a doubt the developer will do it justice.
Which franchise(s) would you like to see get a continuation or revival? Feel free to go into further detail as to why.
For me, a couple of the ones I've been waiting a long time for are:
1. Shenmue: It's been 10 long years since the release of Shenmue 2 on the Dreamcast, and the trilogy is still left unfinished with so many questions unanswered. The series was groundbreaking (both the visuals & gameplay) for its time and paved the way for how a lot of open-world games today are played. I'm aware that the Yakuza series carries a lot of elements from Shenmue, so much so that it's considered a spiritual successor... but, it's just not the same. Yakuza doesn't push any boundaries and now produces recycled sequels.
2. Grandia: Now this is a JRPG series that was very easy to fall in love with, specifically, Grandia I and Grandia II. The 3rd iteration is an abomination that is not to be talked about and was a terrible way to leave the series. The characters and story in Grandia I & II were very enjoyable, the music was a nice bag of grooviness (had a The Slayers vibe), and the battle system was highly addictive and dynamic compared to the competition. If there was ever a series that could easily pull me away from the likes of Final Fantasy, Chrono, etc. It was Grandia.
