Re: Games Do Cause Violent Behavior (But Not Much)

Face it: The whole world is greedy and we will all die as a result. These WMDs are going to incinerate us all...

Givesus an excuse to live it up now :ninja:

Re: Games Do Cause Violent Behavior (But Not Much)

Just because I see someone beating a dead horse doesn't generally mean I'll join in, but it is so much fun! I learned how to from Horse Beater 2, by UbiSoft... :ninja:

I get throws of frustration that I act out by slamming my fist in the wall, desk or other nearby object when doing stuff like homework - does that mean that math causes violent behaviour?
Well Math does actually cause violence so...

Re: Games Do Cause Violent Behavior (But Not Much)

Hmm... Math homework, or a murderous rampage? I think the latter will be more "gun-tastic".

Thompson? Most definitely - he fits the mold of one of those "Crazy Christian Crusader"-type of maniacs, and his crusade is one against video games.

Didn't all the Crusades fail in the end?

Anyway, I was told yesterday in history that it is in human nature to blame something or someone else about something.

All it takes is a charismatic person and then their cause will take over the hearts and minds of thousands of people. Just look at our not-so-good friend Hitler...

(I do believe the IV Crusade was successful, but I'm not sure)

..How?

Re: Games Do Cause Violent Behavior (But Not Much)

I`d say that games do not make someone violent. But, (especially for younger children) games may alter the understanding of the real world. Some may not actually understand the consequences of their actions. I`m not saying this is 100%, but I do believe the possibility remains.

Re: Games Do Cause Violent Behavior (But Not Much)

Personally, I don't believe video games, music, etc makes people go on violent rampages and it kinda gets under my skin when something tragic happens and the media or whatever jump all over the most convenient sacpe goat.

For example, a few years ago I was reading the newspaper (a rare event for me, I try and avoid anything to do with news cause it's so damn depressing) and a 14 year old kid killed another with a claw hammer. He said he got the idea from Manhunt which is now banned here in Oz, also thanks in part to some politian getting on her soapbox saying how impressionable kids are, yadda yadda yadda... We've all heard the typical rant they come out with before. Hell if they had their way the only thing the planet would be aloud to play would be pong.

Now, Rockstar have stated time and again that they make games for adults, not children. On the cover of the game it clearly stated in no uncertain terms: MA 15+, Strong voilent themes and all the rest of it. When the parents were asked why they let their child play such a game their answer was that the rating system for games was to confusing. What the f**k is so confusing about an MA rating???

That kid was old enough to KNOW that killing someone was wrong yet he did it anyway. They could give games all the censors and ratings they want, but in the end when it comes to kids playing games and the like, it's up to the parents to decide if it's suitable and control it where they can. I guess what I'm trying to say is people should take responsibility for their actions and not find some half arsed lame excuse to try and get out of it...

Exactly. Again, refer to my "Guns don't kill people - people kill other people with guns" comment. If a parent handed (not that I am drawing parallels between a gun and our precious video games in any way!) a kid a gun and the kid shot his friend to death - who should you blame: The gun or the parent?

They should f*cking know how kids are, and not let them play games like Manhunt. And what the f*ck was this kid thinking? Clearly this kid had a few screws loose.

So in short: Amen to what you said.

Re: Games Do Cause Violent Behavior (But Not Much)

^_^ Thanks, I was hoping I got what I felt I needed to say across. Sometimes I have trouble trying to get what's in my head down in words that make sense.

Same theory applies to those two nutjobs that ran through Columbine (Not sure if I spelt that right) and they turned around and blamed Doom and Marylin Manson. I love my violent games, movies (more gruesome the better) and hardarse music, hell I got stuff that'd put Manson to shame, and I don't go out and do stupid s**t like that. The 'baddest' thing I ever did was a bit of Rock and dope once on different occassions and that's it. My life is actually quite mundane and I'm one of the most open minded and nicest people you will ever meet (trying not to sound like I'm blowing my own horn to much, appoligies if I failed completely).
