I beat the game and restarted, and noticed near the start when you go into Castle Fairfax with Luciens assistant, you pass Garth and he says nothing.

Why is he in the castle? Why does he look as old as he does like 30+ years from now?

These are probably obvious answers but their stumping me.

Probably donates to the temple of light, to look young. Or maybe Chesty's dream works on him the best.
Garth didn't know what Luceon was planning. They had a falling out.

Yeah, the dog isn't suppose to age. He stays the same.

Actually he does know from a letter I read inside the keep. He talks about it.

Garth was somewhat of an "assistant" to Lucien and was captured and brought to the Spire once he tried to stop Lucien. With regard to his age, Garth looks older to me in the Spire than in the castle, but, who can really tell with those scars.

Well, obviously Garth wasn't aware of the current activities of Lucien. As he's said 'You... and your sister. I didn't know. If I would have known I would have stopped him.' or something similar.
As for his age - I can't see he became older since the spire. Maybe it's just me, but those bloody will veins/scars are bugging me.
