Golliwogg - Is it legal?

I reckon they'll throw the key away after they've locked you up.
Remind me again why I speak to you? :P

It's like we used to have a pub where I used to live called the Black Boy - they had to change the name and the picture because it showed a little black boy shining shoes...also the golly on Robinson's Jam has been the subject of much debate. You used to collect the little golly tokens on the wrapper and exchange them for things like tea-trays, cups and toys...

My golly wears a blue and white suit, has blue eyes and used to have a jacket but I cut it off when I was little. But for the record, when I was about 9 I married him with a white doll called Sarah...they were very happy together until Sarah's head came off in the Great Cat Mauling Incident of 1993...

So sad...

Racist ****. Not you, Angel, that image.

That image has always ****ed me off.

And... what was I going to say? Oh, yeah-- '93. A year that will live in infamy. My little sister was born.

Maybe if the white dolls were as stereotypical it would help. [thinks]. No, no it wouldn't.

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

If I can, I'll get a screenshot of my golly...it really looks nothing like the one I posted earlier, as an example...

It's been knitted but I don't know who by or where we got it. It's one of those toys where you're never quite sure of it's origins...

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

id burn it....i hate dolls lol. they scare me.

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

Same here. Yet one this I love doing so much.
I was walking down the street one day and some guy (happened to be black) barged (or tried to) into me but i moved out the way and he landed flat on his *** and of course the punchline came up,
"Iz it coz i is black!?"
"..yeah pretty much." and you walk away, no offense but it was pretty funny seeing the look on his face.

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

If anything is done to someone black they ammedialty go to racist.

Well, thats a stereotype, and stereotypes ultimately lead to racism :)

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

Yes it may be a steriotype but it is true

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

Not all black people do that, thats like saying all black people eat chicken, or they drive Cadillacs.

Some black people do, others don't

Right! Like some say they sell drugs or dumb. They are a lot of intelligence in African Americans. ( Can we also say African American because I don't like referring to "black" people )

Well, you can't say "African American" because this is about global racism, not just American. Also, white people are called "white people". (See? I said it twice :w00t:)

I grew up in a city thats has a dominantly black population, and I have never met a black person who had a problem being called just that

I was always thought that black people had a problem with it, but never express it...

It may vary from person to person, some may be offended by it

Re: Golliwogg - Is it legal?

Personally, I prefer the terms "cracker" and "black guy," but that's just me. (No, not really. I'm being a smartass.)

And I've rarely heard the "it's because I'm black" thing. A couple classmates have used it sarcastically over the years, and my brother used it sarcastically a LOT for awhile. This was funnier than you might think-- whiteboy in a roughly 90% black school.

And THAT stereotype is ludicrous. If black kids are dumber than I am, I want to know why I was in the bottom of most of my middle school classes-- and I'm not dumb. I was in the smartass classes, and consistently in the lower regions of the rankings. Now I'm still in the lower regions of the smartasses, but now I'm in a more pale and pasty high school.

No difference is apparent to me between the 90% black middle school and the 80% white high school. Well, okay, for my first two weeks all the white people looked the same, but I got over that. And I think the brands of the $100-dollar shoes might be different, but I don't know for sure.

EDIT: Oh, and Solus-- there is sometimes a term for white people in the US. "Caucasian-American" or "European-American." But they just sound dumb.)
