GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

So the hype and talk begins... games outdoing each other and the entertainment industry being dominated by a games sales figures. Kind of an unfair comparison in a way with Halo 3 being exclusive to one platform and GTA IV being multi platform however. Guess only Halo 3 and Gears Of War can boast sales that high though and both arent multi platform titles.

According to a new report, Grand Theft Auto IV is set to generate around $400 million in first week sales, making it the largest videogame launch, and possibly the largest entertainment launch of all time.

Citing "sources close to publisher Take-Two" and industry analysts, Variety suggests that Grand Theft Auto IV is set to smash Halo 3's videogame box office record of $300 million in first week sales, and come close to the $404 million generated by movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End in its first six days of release.

'Several industry analysts also told Daily Variety that they fully expect GTA IV to come close to and possibly exceed $400 million in sales out of the gate.

'Though they rarely release the data, videogame publishers are able to accurately predict early game sales based on what retailers order.

'Sources close to publisher Take-Two Interactive, whose Rockstar Games label is developing and releasing the title, said that the latest installment of the hit franchise will reach that figure and sell some 6 million units after it launches worldwide on April 29.

'Videogame sellers have slightly varying predictions at this point, though all expect it to be huge. Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes said that GTA IV will likely do 'two times the volume' that Halo 3 did for his chain, while GameStop senior veep of merchandising Bob McKenzie said the game is currently tracking slightly behind Microsoft's three-quel.'

Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey said previously that GTA IV could ship 5.8 million units in its first week, or $360 million in retail sales, while Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter forecast four million units in first week sales.

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

Halo 3 is 360 exclusive and it will be released out for PC just like previous ones so when it does come out Halo still might be on top all we have to do is wait for GTA to be released for the 360/PS3 and see which version tops Halo 3s sales that is of course if GTA sells better but it might not sell as great as they say it will though i would prefare Halo over GTA anyday.

GTA IV will have 360/PS3 and PC so 3 platforms combined sales over Halo 3 on 1 (for the foreseeable future after how long Halo 2 took to port).

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

Halo and Gears will always be my favorites games...GTA is great tho:lol:

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

GTA IV definitely smashes Halo 3 already, at least for me. :P

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

Boo Halo, yay GTA!

GFX mean nothing to me and they have already shown how much better the gameplay is than San Andreas. For a start no more blowing up when you crash into things too many times, better hand to hand fight mechanics, realistic car handling, better physics, online multiplayer and this is just the basic stuff off top of my head. The improvements from last games judging on the previews ive read are huge. This coming from me who wasnt a huge fan of Vice City or San Andreas and even im excited by GTA IV.

And no more frigging "nigga" and "gangsta" hip-hop/rap culture.

Pure Russian awesomeness. The Russian mobsters are second only to the Sicilian ones. The Yakuza is a strong third though...

Yeah got to admit that is much more appealing too, Russian mobsters are badass. However Niko is more likely Serbian than Russian.

Dan Houser (Rockstar co-founder) also commented in Interview on CVG about how big he thinks the differences are.

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

OK I admit that it looks alright but im still not getting it because of these 2 reasons

1. Your From the Middle East but not Russia (dont beleive me check it up) so who
ever is buying it to be a russian you can take russion of the list.

2. Im waiting for somthing that I would like and not waste my money on somthing
that im going to trade in a couple of days later because I have 42 games and
I have 23 of them of them are old boring First Person Shooters so there is no way
im buying another shooter game for a while.

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

Looking forward to the game and definitely being able to crash some more :D

But I'm still a little disappointed that the people graphics haven't evolved much since GTA III from what I can gather. The environments are improved and the stuff like water and fire looks much better but the people are still...PS2 material, dare I say it. Maybe it's a signature look for GTA or something but I would prefer them to look better...

Sorry, but you're very much wrong. You are Eastern EUROPEAN which could be Russia. (In fact I'm pretty darn sure he is Russian).

It is later revealed that these are lies to hide Roman's own failures. During the course of the story, Niko is looking for someone who betrayed his old army unit and will stop at nothing to find him, enlisting help from wherever he can. Niko is said to be between 5’11” and 6’2”, is between 28 and 32 years of age, 190-200 lbs and is Eastern European. Also the Central Balkan Region is located around Croatia/Hungary/Romania/Serbia/Albania/Greece and Bulgaria (along with a couple more). So hes more likely Serbian than Russian but definitely not from the Middle East.

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

Take Two boss still thinks that with all this record breaking sales talk people are underestimating how much it will sell. :O

CVG said:
Take-Two boss Feder was bullish about GTA IV's prospects on Monday, telling Reuters that sales of the game would exceed Wall Street expectations.

"Our expectations are very high, higher than analysts give the game credit for. All the analysts had a [sales] number, give or take, and I think we will be on the upside of that rather than the downside."

GTA IV has been tipped to generate $400 million in first week sales, smashing the $300 million opening week record set by Halo 3 last year.
Prominent videogame analysts like Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter and Janco Partners' Mike Hickey have said that they expect the game to shift around six million units in its first week on sale.

On Monday Pachter told the Associated Press, "The addressable market at launch is about 24 million consoles.

"So how many will sell in the first week or month or few months? Nine million. That's the number. That's about a 35 percent attach rate. By year's end, it'll be somewhere between 11 and 13 million because more consoles will be sold before the holidays."

Many stores worldwide opened their doors at midnight for the game's launch. Specialist US retailer GameStop opened thousands of branches while UK-based Game opened over 260 stores.
Customers who hadn't pre-ordered a copy of the game were warned that it would be difficult to secure one during the midnight launch due to high demand.

The title has been receiving universal critical acclaim from the gaming press - it currently has an average score of 99 percent on review aggregator Metacritic.

Re: GTA IV to smash Halo 3 records?

I personally believe it will win over Halo 3. Why? Tons of reasons- more open gameplay, a stolen truck-load of features and (drumroll) more armed robbery than one insane gamer needs. Nothing against Halo, but GTA has a huge fanbase and can easily rise to the challenge of people making uber-games as of late.

Also the fact that i mentioned with it being on multiple platforms helps double sales easily, plus the GTA fan following has existed since 1997 .
