Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Does anyone think you will be able to get a ship in Fable 2?

I wouldnt have thought so personally, maybe as an alternate to teleporting island to island but i dont think you would control it.

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Good point, it would also be wicked to have ship fights, were you board a enemy ship and attack it ^^

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Yeah, I like the idea of having your own ship. It'd also be kinda cool if they based 2 in a more islandic situation... which makes no sense. But I mean that it should be based partially in the Caribbean, Meditterranean, Pacific, Indian (their analogs, at least), and allow you to go to Iceland and Greenland (which I think might already have their analogs in Hook Coast and the Northern Wastes) as well, and other islands in the North Atlantic.

Then you can sail around all piratically, attack pirates, attack other ships as a pirate, defend against attacks from pirates, defend against attacks from Revenue Cutters and naval forces, and fun things like that. Then you can also have fun with cannon and boarding.

And on dual wielding-- I think it might, real-world-wise, be possible. All I have to base this on is fictional historical and time travel books, but I have read of wheelock pistols fired dual-wielded by cavalrymen, and wheelocks are about as old of pistols as you can get... so I think it might be possible. I have also read of them being fired one-handed, by one-armed characters. On the other hand, I AM TALKING ABOUT FICTION, so it is, of course, of dubious legitimacy.

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Exactly - while I am not talking Matrix-esque action here, too much reality into a game is... boring.

So assassin's creed is going to be boring? That's full of reality

"Too much". "Too much"..... Like if you couldn't dual wield some certain items due to some certain blow back action....

My point being; Fable isn't a simulator of any kind, where realism is desired.

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Hmmm... I differ. Outside of the usual doesn't-exist non-realism of sci-fi and fantasy, I prefer as realistic as possible. So a huge nuclear-powered hovercraft tank, I can stand for. A huge diesel-powered hovercraft tank... that I'm not for.

Same thing with this-- I don't want to see us dual-wielding rifles, no matter how magically huge we are, but pistols? Who's to say the pistols don't have a small enough charge to be dual-wieldable and still have the range? Suspension of disbelief, so long as you're believing things really huge or really small... it's the in-between stuff that gets on the nerves. (By that I mean that I can believe a huge thing like a world running on magic instead of elecricity, or a small thing like a too-powerful-blowback/recoil pistol being dual-wieldable, but medium-sized things like a gas mask protecting you from nerve gas I can't stand.)

Uhm.. you don't "differ" at all - I never said hovercrafts, I only said, which you agree with me, that pistols should be dual-wieldable. Realism within the boundaries of which keeps the game enjoyable rather than annoying. I said "non Matrix-esque" by which I meant no such extremes like hovercrafts.

So we very much share the same views.

Sorry. From that it sounded like you were more liberal in your acceptance of non-realism than I am. Not so much that as by the last part, the part I underlined. I do want realism, insofar as there is any in sci-fi and fantasy. The big things are all I like in my books. The small I accept in games and movies.

Na, I merely meant that in simulator type of games, your aim is to get as much realism as possible and Fable obviously isn't one of them so you do not need a very real recoil and "blow back" action from the guns, which makes dual wielding a feasble thing.

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Hmmm... I don't know about that. My point is that I think that dual wielding might be possible without fudging the realism.

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Personally, I like it. You don't get a lot of renaissance/colonial period-ish fantasy games (Science Fiction ones don't count :-P). Back in the day in which swords were still realistically effective to a extent but you also had guns :-P

As for dual-wielding...I can see certain types of pistols as being possibly dual-wieldable, though not necessarily the blunderbuss...I think. Some of the later pistol types, however (not speaking of the modern pistols but rather 17th and 18th century ones) could be more realistically duel-wielded :-P. Actually, as a American Civil War reenactor I've had to reload those things. Pains in the behind, they are. As such, the guns wouldn't be as much fun Fable-wise if they were too realistic, so I guess anythings possible...Though I'm not sure if I actually expect them to allow us to duel-wield ;-)

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

its going to take a little bit of time for me to get used to the idea of guns but I am sure I will come around. I just hope the keep the bow and arrow and that they let you shoot fire arrows at houses etc and catch them on fire. :)

Re: Guns...Will they kill it?

Yeah, I know (academically) how difficult it is to reload old guns. That is something that I actually want them to fudge the realism on, though I wouldn't want them to do so in a book. The effect on gameplay of reloading so slowly would just be horrible. It would make me, as I said before, prefer to have a longbow again. I hated crossbows in Fable 1 for the same slow-reload problem.

And yeah, the dual-wielded wheelocks from a book I was talking about were 17th century, so I guess you back me up on that bit of data.

Well... no. By colonial times swords were pretty much useless, except maybe for ship boardings and stuff, at least as far as I know. During the Renaissance they still got some use from melee weapons, though.
