Half Life 2 Problem

Hi All! how are you today? As some may know, (Dark Drakan, Gikoku) I've been having some problems with My half life 2 Games. I go to play, everything loads fine, I make a new game, and start to get into playing. Then, whenever a sound goes off, (the grav gun, a ship warning signal, Alex talking to me) My game freezes and stops responding.

I've tried Uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics card.
My next step is to Unmount it and remount it to see if that helps any.

I searched google for this problem, but every answer/thread I found was either old or unhelpful.

My room mate says maybe My graphics card can't handle the sound, or something like that.

I'm not sure.

But Any suggestions from you nice people would be helpful. Or links to solutions. Thanks. ^_^

I don't know if I have a sound card. that's all that Jazz my room mate was talking about. How do I check if I have a sound card?

Keep in mind my XP is in Swedish, but I sorta hope it helps. The window to the right is what you get when right-clicking in "My/This Computer" and "Enhetshanteraren".. I guess that'd be "Unit Handler" or something like that.. "Ljud, video och spel-enheter" I guess that might be is "Sound, Video and Game-Units" and the highlited item is my soundcard.

Yeah they are supposed to be that many, I guess . As you can see, some of them are obviously the same. Like "Audio Codec" and "Ljud-Codec".

Try this out; Realtek

I am unsure wether or not they have general drivers for all their cards, or if you must find out exactly what your card is named, though.

Well, Under the Device manager thing, I updated the driver that way and restarted, and now my Sound isn't working properly. I'll try downloading what you sent me to, to see if that helps.

Just try to update your sound drivers and head to Realtek's site for latest ones as auto update can sometimes not get the correct ones. They might just be out of date thats all.

Just try to update your sound drivers and head to Realtek's site for latest ones as auto update can sometimes not get the correct ones. They might just be out of date thats all.

Yeah I never really use that update feature either. Feels better and more reliable to do the research yourself to find the correct one.

I really hope it's my sound drivers. Or else my Graphics Card is dying. :'(

I could almost bet something on it. Especially since it came with the PC, and you haven't updated it.

Yeah I never really use that update feature either. Feels better and more reliable to do the research yourself to find the correct one.

Yeah i dont think ive ever done it either as it always caused some problems with friends so i always found latest ones myself and set restore point before hand.

Well I wish I would've been warned before hand :lol: the driver download is at 17% seems it's going to take a bit.

It wont cause any problems it just wouldnt help to much from what ive heard.

Well it did cause a problem, My audio stopped working properly, but I tried the auto update again and the audio came back.

Also (8/2/2006) My Video GFX card drivers are so out of date. :lol:

No I'm not sure. It was the Auto Update Feature. So it's all their fault. The driver download from the website you showed me is 40% downloaded, still have yet to try that.

Yeah it has a tendency to do that, its just a minor bug, i bet if you restarted computer it would have returned too. Update Video card drivers too, cant have to many updates

Yeah. First thing I do when a game won't work like it should is checking my drivers.

...

Then I cry a bit because I am reminded that they are up-to-date, it is just my PC that sucks.

Well, While I'm waiting for my driver to download, I set the Game Audio Options at (Low) to see if that helps any. Things seem to be running smoother.

Audio Driver Update downloaded and installed successfully. I'll see if that was the problem. And if it was then thanks a bunch you too. Smooch back Tsuyu :shifty: :lol:
