'Halo 3' video game smashes sales records

Microsoft Corp. claimed one of the biggest opening days in entertainment history Wednesday, saying its "Halo 3" video game rang up $170 million in U.S. retail sales in the first 24 hours.

The tally, which didn't include international sales that will add millions more, outpaced Microsoft's prediction of $150 million. It also beat the all-time grossing box-office movie release, "Spider-Man 3," which racked up $151 million during its opening weekend in May.

That figure should go a long way towards legitimizing Gaming in peoples minds though there is a big difference between 170 Million at $70 a pop and 170 Million at $10 a pop

Yeah the Halo 3 release surpassed that of huge blockbuster movie releases, we all knew it would break game sales records but i didnt expect it to smash all multimedia/Entertainment records.

I Talked to my buddy at gamestop when I stopped by to get an application. Their store by noon had already made 6000. Thats not including the midnight release party they had for it.

I was in the store for 10 minutes I think I counted 15 people pick up their reserve copies.

My local, tiny K-Mart had a massive pile of copies when I walked into it last night.

I had registar training today at bestbuy and I saw two people get it inside of 15 minutes. One of the got a 360 with it :thumbsup:

Well, I could kind of see this one coming... Halo is singularly just awesome. I'm mostly amazed that it didn't seem to take that long in development. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like "Hey, did you know that Halo 3's going to be released next month?" Whoah...

Well, I could kind of see this one coming... Halo is singularly just awesome. I'm mostly amazed that it didn't seem to take that long in development. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like "Hey, did you know that Halo 3's going to be released next month?" Whoah...

Well 3 years isnt as long as some games but they already had the engine for it and all systems were very sleek and optimised from previous versions. So they just needed to put things on a larger scale put some new things into it and polish it up.
