Havok in Fable 2!

This just in people! On December 12, 2006, it was announced that Fable 2 was to make use of the Havok physics engine, as seen in games like TES Oblivion and Half-life 2! For those who don't know, the Havok system is for simulating physics in video games (i.e. you can throw something into the air and it acts accordingly as it would in actual physics). What does this mean for the Fable 2 universe though? Give me some input on what you think this feature will lead to.

Also see these ;) :

I don't think it will look like Half Life 2's or Oblivions it will just mean that items and things will react more true to life and maybe things will react better with each other like pots floating on water and more weight etc involved. If pot is floating and something heavier is on top it will sink etc etc. Also things like bricks and barrels will react better and shatter more unexpectedly depending on what surface they come into contact with.... things like that.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

I believe Molunex said that your character swings his or her weapon according to the surroundings, as in shortening his strike if he was close to a wall or something of the sort. Like you said, I seriously doubt that it will look as good as the Oblivion or Half-life 2 system, but it would be interesting to implement in Fable 2.

Yeah it will be more the physics and interaction of your surroundings than the GFX style that will be effected. Means your weapon will rely more on weight and mean that materials should react more realistically like arrows bouncing off armour and walls and sticking into wood maybe.... things like that. Sword sparking off metal and rock and sticking into and smashing wood and weaker materials.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

He also said something when he was being interviewed about Fable 1 about being able to vandalize all manner of property. Does this mean he might put this feature in Fable 2 for all of the psychotic players out there who want to burn down their neighbor's house or tear up the local bar? Who knows, but I personally hope so. I like the burning your neighbor's house down part.

I think he would have just meant more destructible items in the environments.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

true, but what if you could take the definition of evil to a whole new level. Couldn't you just see a jack-of-blades esque character walking into town, throwing the innkeeper against the wall, tearing the place apart and burning it to the ground. Maybe they could make it to where when you destroy buildings, in a few days villagers begin construction again (scaffolding appears and it takes about one to two weeks to build or something). Just an idea.

Guess havok physics would have some part in the destruction part of that and smashing the place up but nothing to do with the contruction and that part of it, thats to do with the AI.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

I think that Peter Molyneux will surprise us so much that we will literally $h|7 ourselves.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

ah thated be tthe day...but im worried that by not informming us at all we get alittle overhyped any..about feature we WANTED to see....since tahts all we can do now speculate and master-never mind
*note i was ****ing kidding ok?*

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

I think this is the third, or fourth time I am saying this: He also promised us a physic engine/feature for the development, and bouncyness, of the boobies of a female playing character.

For a perv like me, that can only mean one thing: Three thumbs up!

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

Hahahah Bouncy boobs. I got that In tomb Raider Angel of Darkness. so I was happy. Not that I spent the whole time making her jump just to see..>>

I really hope we can jump in fable 2.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

Jumping would be cool - and perhaps even extend the free roaming aspect of the game to some degree if you can jump over walls and stuff.

As for physics, well I don't think I'd want a top-heavy hero character running around getting two black eyes from her own chest, or failing quests coz she forgot her shockabsorber(TM) sports bra back at the Guild...

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

*laughs* did they even have bra's?? Hopefully theres a set limit for the size of the breatsss...>>;

The fream roaming aspect SHOULD be a little better. a little better than fable to say the least..hopefully.

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

Well they must have some kinda support coz currently Whisper, Briar Rose and Lady Grey seem to be held in place by sheer magic - in reality gravity would have made pendulums out of them before they even finished puberty

Re: Havok in Fable 2!

Heehee. I hope people age with the hero..as apposed to Lady grey and her eternal youth.

I know it will be possible to just off clips n stuff but if it goes san andreas, jumping over fences walls to get to a reference point it would be pretty sweet:)
