Help Me With My Project!!!

I am currently working on a very important project which is due horrifyingly soon and I need to ask the following questions to a minumum of 10 people, but preferably as many as possible...

anyone who can take the time to answer the questions below would really be helping me out a lot ^_^

I must stress that this is not about getting the answers right or wrong, I need to know what your gut answer is, so please don't go looking up the answers to these or it will skew the results of my project...

The purpose of this project is to perform an analysis between what people believe about health versus the facts about health from a Western biomedical perspective, and then to consider the possible ramifications this may have on the current medical system. There are no wrong answers, I just need to know what you feel the answers are.

1. Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot?

2. Can you get sick or die from drinking too much water?

3. Where is the stomach located? How would you make the gesture for having a sore stomach? (where would you point on your body?)

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why?

5. How long could one live without food? Without water?

6. Which of the following is a stimulant? Alcohol, Ibuprofen, Chocolate.

7. What does it mean to have a high tolerance to a substance? Could a person become immune to the effects of alcohol, for instance?

8. Is there such a thing as "good fat" and "bad fat"?

9. Can you catch a cold from going outside in the cold with no jacket, or wet hair?

10. Is it harmful to the baby for a woman to engage in sexual activity while pregnant?

11. Can you get lead poisoning from a pencil?

12. What is a Naturopathic Doctor and how are they different than a Medical Doctor? Or are they not different at all?

13. What is the difference between naturopathic remedies and pharmaceutical remedies?

14. What do you believe to be the ideal weight for a woman of my height and age? (5 foot 9, 23)

15. Do you trust your Health practitioner, and are you honest with them at all times?

Re: Help Me With My Project!!!

1. Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot?

No...Or unless you're allergic.

2. Can you get sick or die from drinking too much water?

If the water isn't clean.

3. Where is the stomach located? How would you make the gesture for having a sore stomach? (where would you point on your body?)

Under rib cage...

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why?

Take them only a few times as they are used to stimulate the white blood cells, as well as kill the germs as well.

5. How long could one live without food? Without water?

Around a week without food, and around 2 days without water.

6. Which of the following is a stimulant? Alcohol, Ibuprofen, Chocolate.

Chocolate...

7. What does it mean to have a high tolerance to a substance? Could a person become immune to the effects of alcohol, for instance?

Not completely, but just become 'more immune,' as in you are able to with stand more alcohol...

8. Is there such a thing as "good fat" and "bad fat"?

Bull****

I think pharmaceuticals are much , much better and effective. The herbal stuff is just for those environmentalists.

14. What do you believe to be the ideal weight for a woman of my height and age? (5 foot 9, 23)

I have no idea...uhh 65kg?(Random number)

Re: Help Me With My Project!!!

1. Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot?

No it is not possible

2. Can you get sick or die from drinking too much water?

Yes you can as someone has done so recently.

3. Where is the stomach located? How would you make the gesture for having a sore stomach? (where would you point on your body?)

The stomach is found in the upper middle of your abdomen, just below your ribs.

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why?

They kill bacteria and stop the chemical process used to create it. They should be taken for as long as your doctor tells you and no longer as bacteria can become immune to them.

Your very welcome ^_^

Re: Help Me With My Project!!!

Sorry for the paragraphing.
  • Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot? Yes, they inject you with a very weak form of influenza, so that your body will build up immunity to it.

  • Can you get sick or die from drinking too much water? Yes, a woman actually died from a radio contest where she had to drink as much water as she could without urinating to win the bet.
3. Where is the stomach located? How would you make the gesture for having a sore stomach? (Where would you point on your body?) Lower left side of the chest cavity. (I dunno about this, I guessed.)

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why? Antibiotics work by killing off a selective type of bacteria in the body. You should take them as long as the doctor recommends, because the bacteria could resurge within that period if the antibiotic is stopped prematurely.

5. How long could one live without food? Without water? Depending upon the person, a week or two without food, a few days without water.

6. Which of the following is a stimulant? Alcohol, Ibuprofen, Chocolate.
Chocolate

7. What does it mean to have a high tolerance to a substance? Could a person become immune to the effects of alcohol, for instance? Having a high tolerance of something means it takes more of the substance to get you to how you felt when you first tried it. It might feel like being immune to alcohol, but when your liver fails, you’ll notice.

8. Is there such a thing as "good fat" and "bad fat"? Yes, good fat is enough to cushion vital organs and keep the body warm. Bad fat is an overabundance of fat cells, thereby hindering the body in it’s works.

9. Can you catch a cold from going outside in the cold with no jacket, or wet hair? If there are cold germs outside, then yes.

10. Is it harmful to the baby for a woman to engage in sexual activity while pregnant? Depends on how far along the baby is.

11. Can you get lead poisoning from a pencil? If the pencil has lead in it, not graphite.

12. What is a Naturopathic Doctor and how are they different than a Medical Doctor? Or are they not different at all? Naturopathic doctors use natural, cost effective remedies, while medical doctors use pharmaceutical remedies.

13. What is the difference between naturopathic remedies and pharmaceutical remedies? One works, one doesn’t.

14. What do you believe to be the ideal weight for a woman of my height and age? (5 foot 9, 23) Depends on body type and genetics.

15. Do you trust your Health practitioner, and are you honest with them at all times? Yes, yes.

Re: Help Me With My Project!!!

1. Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot?
yes (I dunno!)

2. Can you get sick or die from drinking too much water?
Yes

3. Where is the stomach located? How would you make the gesture for having a sore stomach? (where would you point on your body?)
I would point to below my diaphragm and about 2-3 inches above my navel

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why?
They assist your white blood cells by attacking the infection. You should take them for as long as prescribed, even if you feel well, otherwise they won't be as effective.

5. How long could one live without food? Without water?
You can live without food for a long time...just over a month, I reckon. Water - 3 days max unless of course you are drinking other liquids.

6. Which of the following is a stimulant? Alcohol, Ibuprofen, Chocolate.
Chocolate

7. What does it mean to have a high tolerance to a substance? Could a person become immune to the effects of alcohol, for instance?
To have a high tolerance means your body is used to a certain level of something and it means it takes more of whatever it is for the effects to be as apparent compared to someone with a lower tolerance. A person can never be immune to the effects of alcohol because even if they show no outward signs of effects, the damage is still being done on the inside.

8. Is there such a thing as "good fat" and "bad fat"?
Yes - certain fats are essential for growth etc but as with anything, you mustn't exceed the recommended daily amounts unless necessary (i.e. Doctor says so or whatever).

9. Can you catch a cold from going outside in the cold with no jacket, or wet hair?
No.

10. Is it harmful to the baby for a woman to engage in sexual activity while pregnant?
No - unless a doctor advises otherwise, it is not harmful.

11. Can you get lead poisoning from a pencil?
Nope - no lead in pencils anymore.

12. What is a Naturopathic Doctor and how are they different than a Medical Doctor? Or are they not different at all?
Never heard of it, but I'll take a wild guess and say that they use natural methods like herbal remedies and the like to treat ailments as opposed to chemicals that a doctor may prescribe. I think that's the main difference - other than maybe they don't have to go to medical school to practice their medicine?

13. What is the difference between naturopathic remedies and pharmaceutical remedies?
The former uses naturally found ingredients only and the latter uses chemical substances.

14. What do you believe to be the ideal weight for a woman of my height and age? (5 foot 9, 23)
Er...about 9 stone?

15. Do you trust your Health practitioner, and are you honest with them at all times?

I do and I am - no point in lying!

Don't know if that helps at all...

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why?

If I remember correctly from the LAST time I took Antibio's. Don't they prevent the growth of bacteria? (My doctor told me to eat a lot of yogurt). As for how long one would take them? Nope. I know this for a FACT. :shifty: She can have sex all she wants. :ninja:

Re: Help Me With My Project!!!

1. Is it possible to get the flu from the flu shot?

Actually, saying that you didn't get it from the flu shot would be a lie - the shot actually contains the flu!(So that your body reacts and makes anti-bodies or something)

2. Can you get sick or die from drinking too much water?

Most likely, but alot of factors are unknown. Do you pee, or just down it all in one go? How clean is the water? Anyway, someone once told me "Everything is unhealthy in too small or too big doses".

3. Where is the stomach located? How would you make the gesture for having a sore stomach? (where would you point on your body?)

My belly-button!

4. How do antibiotics work? How long should you take them for and why?

Honestly, I have no idea. I guess by the name it injects you with a "boost" of anti-bodies or something. I know that you are told to take them for a time period, but I won't know how long. A week or two perhaps.

5. How long could one live without food? Without water?

The human being can actually manage quite a long time without food, perhaps a week or two. But water? You won't last more than a couple of days without water.

6. Which of the following is a stimulant? Alcohol, Ibuprofen, Chocolate.

Alcohol AND chocoloate(contains sweet-sweet sugar). Dunno what the other thing is.

7. What does it mean to have a high tolerance to a substance? Could a person become immune to the effects of alcohol, for instance?

Indeed - just ask Drunken! That is why heavy drinkers rarely get drunk after alot of beer, while a first timer might only be able to handle a few. It actually has to do with the brain "wanting" the substance, and building up a "resistance" to it so you will crave more and more of said substance to reach... the buzz, or whatever. But making one "immune" would serve no purpose in most cases since that'd make you unable to get "high" on the substance. I also belive such a thing is impossible.

8. Is there such a thing as "good fat" and "bad fat"?

Naturally. I don't remember my cooking classes, but there is indeed good and bad fat in food.

9. Can you catch a cold from going outside in the cold with no jacket, or wet hair?

Yeah, I guess.

10. Is it harmful to the baby for a woman to engage in sexual activity while pregnant?

Hell no! Alot of women gets a boost in their sexual drive when pregnant.

11. Can you get lead poisoning from a pencil?

Pretty much yeah - depends on how dedicated you are at stabbing yourself with it. I guess one or two times can't be that bad.

12. What is a Naturopathic Doctor and how are they different than a Medical Doctor? Or are they not different at all?

Honestly... no idea.

13. What is the difference between naturopathic remedies and pharmaceutical remedies?

See 12...

14. What do you believe to be the ideal weight for a woman of my height and age? (5 foot 9, 23)

That's close to 2 meters, aint it? That is pretty tall... I'd say about 50 -70 kilograms wouldn't be too far off, but then again I have no idea.

15. Do you trust your Health practitioner, and are you honest with them at all times?

I rarely get sick, like only two or three times a year so I don't really go see one that often. But I'd probably be honest about everything. No use in keeping things hidden if you want to get well.
