how do you kick a chicken?

Hi this might sounds like a really silly question but I can't seem to kick a chicken. I take saftey off and try and attack it but im just hitting it with my melee weapon. I don't have a kick expression. Am i doing something wrong?

Stand Near a Chicken.
Press 'A'.

You can also press A as you walk by them etc ^__^
