How To Install XP Over Vista

From what I have read, you can't install XP after Vista unless you do some weird nerdy stuff :geek:. I have looked into dual-booting, but that looks like more nerdy stuff. :geek::geek:. So, does anyone have a clue to how this is done? Preferably just have XP installed, not both, but if that is how it works, I'll settle. I have also seen those programs where you can run both at once. No thanks, the whole point is to be rid of Vista.

So, does anyone know how to do this the easy way without any of that super nerd technical stuff?

*shudder* All I wanted was to go back to XP but it kept going horrendously wrong. I personally think it's a conspiracy by Microsoft to make Vista take over the world...

Tried everything but it didn't work. Backed everything up over on my external HD, reformatted and installed with XP...but it would not recognise certain components and kept freezing...

Sad face.

Totally in the same boat, Skotekal. A months back I researched into the best possible way to have XP and Vista co-exist and have the choice of switching between both operating systems in an easy manner. Sadly, I didn't have much luck.

I'd say your best bet, if you can get it to work, would be to install Window's Virtual Machine software onto your Windows Vista OS. From there, run Virtual Machine and, from what I remember, you can just insert the Windows XP installation CD and Virtual Machine will run through all kinds of crazy checks to validate that your copy of XP is legitimate before allowing you to carry on with the installation.

Sadly, I didn't manage to get very far as Virtual Machine kept locking up my computer after so long so I just gave up.

The only reason I even tried to install XP is because I can't test-run WordPress templates in Internet Explorer 6 without re-installing XP.

I take it that I am SOL at the moment then?

I would reformat and install XP on the blank drive instead of Vista.

Now, how does this work? I'm not really good with the technical aspect of computers.

Wow. Sometimes I really hate Microsoft. First you bombard us with a ****ty OS, then you won't let us revert to the old one. Couldn't they make money by doing this? Just have it preinstalled, then go out and buy XP. Double.

:O Some hope yet. But that'll probably take some actual computer skills. Something I don't have. Oh well. God I hate vista.
