I have to apologize

The whole article right here is about what a rumor it is, but I have to say: if there's even a trace of truth to it, I am so, so sorry for you guys. Bad enough that the ****ing Yankees are in the MLB, but if they start buying... whatever your top soccer championships are called to go with their collection of World Series, I'm going to be ****ed.

I don't even know if the New York Yankees in possession of the Tottenham whoever-they-ares would be able to buy a championship, or whether your league has a salary cap or what.

But I have to express my sadness at any possible expansion of the evil empire.

Re: I have to apologize

WUT! Tottenham Hotspurs!? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

I have a friend that SERIOUSLY supports them, like diehard fan. I'll be sure to draw this news out as long as possible...

But I don't have anything against the NY Yankees, but I lived nearer to Boston so I would support the red socks if anything...

Re: I have to apologize

Tottenham are in the top 6 teams in our highest league and would be a good investment in a money making sense as they finished 4th in the league last year. Team i support is owned by 2 Americians who also own the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However the brothers are hated my our fans and have been holding demonstrations to get them out for quite some time as they have saddled us with around £600 million of debt.

Salary cap on the players? On average they earn around £80,000 - £140,000 a week. Foreign investors are ruining the Premier League as certain owners like ours are saddling us with huge debts that could see our beloved teams head to financial ruin. Or they are super rich tycoons who force teams to sell their best players by offering them insane wages a week to come and play for them that no other teams can afford to pay.

Re: I have to apologize

Yeah, that second one it what I meant. The Yankees are the richest team in baseball, and they're famous for paying ridiculous amounts of money for the best players-- in essence, buying World Series. That's a large part of why they're universally hated.

Salary cap is something that football does. They limit the max amount that players can make so that one rich team can't get whatever players they want just with ridiculously huge amounts of money. Baseball doesn't have one. Though they did talk about it fo awhile, as I remember.

Re: I have to apologize

i'm sorry UK bretheren.
the yankees are indeed a strong case of AIDS that we in the united states have been unable to even slow down. they use their massive funds to get many of the best players, and prove that with enough money you can be the best baseball team. it was because of them that my beloved philadelphia phillies lost the world series (and i use the term world loosely).
i apologize that they are threatening to become an epidemic overseas in your territory, and i hope you are more successful in eradicating the nuisance than we have.
god be with you.

Re: I have to apologize

It could be worse, I suppose. If the Redskins bought a team you'd have all the money with none of the competence. On the other hand, you WOULD have less evil.

****ing Dan Snyder.

EDIT: Sorry, I just realized that didn't make sense. "Could be worse for the fans of this team, could be better for fans of other teams."

Theres that side of it which is bad for the sport and ruins it for the fans of the teams with little money and yeah there should be a salary cap. However when people come in and offer between £20 and £50 million for a player most clubs are inclined to accept. As its an astronomical amount of cash and they could rebuild a team around it and also pay off some debts and wages with it. So that too is an issue.

However the club i support has the opposite issue, the American owners only purchased the club to fund their debts. They borrowed money to purchase it and now have saddled them with the £750 million debt. So if we dont cont continue to win cups and league titles and qualify for everything and get bonus cash the club could be in danger of not generating enough cash to continue debt payments & have parts sold off to make the extra money. They also havent got a huge amount to give us to invest in players and wages. Which has seen the clubs owned by billionaire Russians, Arab sheiks etc to start catching up with us because they have raided the best clubs in the world for their players and paid insane amounts for them to make them join.

Re: I have to apologize

Tottenam Hotspurs. Greatest name for a club ever.

But as an Arsenal supporter, I find it HILARIOUS.

Well, yeah, you said the guys who owned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers bought you out, right? As far as I know, Tampa Bay sucks and they don't make that much money.

At least my Redskins suck and are immensely profitable.

The name or the fact that there's a possibility that the team will start kicking ass on the force of obscene amounts of money?

And don't you have Australian soccer teams to root for or something?

As an Arsenal fan he would hope that it would bring great misfortune to Tottenham seem as though they are London rivals.

Arsenal vs Tottenham is like.... I can only think of Australian sport analogies, so that won't help anyone. They're pretty massive rivals though.

And I do (Melbourne Victory FTW), but no one cares about Australian soccer.

I'm also a Celtic supporter in the Scottish Premier League, a supporter of any team that's from Boston, in any American sport. Don't know why, just like Boston.
