Im back with a Brand-new rap!

Yeah thats right! Your for everlonging schizo ScareCrow is back!

But anyway, enuf' bout me!

I was talking to a friend, well aquantence about Religion, YES! Here we go..

I just have 1, very small, insignificant question.

Why is it that they have to prove God is real? Cant they just keep it to themselves?

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

welcome back, sir.

people feel the need to prove or disprove gods existence to others because they feel that they must find a way to convince the opposition in order to further justify and prove their own opinions.
OR they are so close minded in their beliefs that they feel the need to "enlighten" those who think otherwise.
that is only in extremely delusional cases, though.

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

Ah I seeeeee.

I know this wont happen, and its kind of pointless writing it, but ohwell.

Why dont people just respect each others opinions and beliefs? (To do with religion) Why do we have to prove anything? Why cant we just our life without having to prove each action we do?

because many feel threatened by other versions of the same story. other theories that are equally if not more plausible, their only way of finding worth in what they themselves have faith in is to test it against the words of nonbelievers.

it's an instinct that isn't found in religion alone. i know that if i think pizza place X is the best in town, then i'll personally take anyone who prefers to pizza place Y to pizza place X for a slice in order to validate their opinion. i may say that i only want them to try the one i like better, but at the same time i'd be seeing if an alternate preference is really possible.
anyone can preach about accepting others opinions and respecting them, but preaching and practice are two different things on infinitely different levels of difficulty.

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

Ah I seeeee, Its funny how easy you have wrote this, usually it'd just be a whole lotta people ramblin' on about their opinions and what-not, thank you. Rep for Youuuuu.

But yeah, I see what you mean. I guess its jsut something that i'd like the way the world could work, but It wont happen..

Because a lot of religious people impose their beliefs on others, especially when they try and change laws based on their religious beliefs (AKA marriage, abortion...). If people keep it to themselves and be fair and take their opinion on real life matters somewhere other than their religious scripture, I'd be okay with it.

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

It's not about whether the belief is right or wrong. It's about the implications of belief on innocent parties.

For instance, a child who is raised by christian parents, will be tought that the religion that the parents decide to follow is the only right one, and that anyone who doesn't follow their religion will not go to heaven. The child, being a child, has to believe the parents (it's in our genes), and they will likely never get to make an informed decision on the matter. It's brainwashing, and it's sick.

That of course, is a mild case. There are ones who think they are the worlds moral compass, and will try to force other people to behave the way their religion tells them to. It's not just an Islamic thing. There are an equal percentage of these people in every religion, and you can't have religion without them.

Every sapient creature has the right to self determination, and religion destroys that.

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

^ That.
And, welcome back Scarecrow! You probably don't remember me, or have never seen me, but as one of the few that stand out even the slightest among all members on projectego by now, I must welcome you back. :P
Hurray!

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

Oh yeah, I forgot to say welcome back. :D

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

I would love to believe in God or whatever.
At least something in the after-life.

..But I don't

Which is kinda depressing, being worm food when you die - or burned, then stopped into an urn.

I once saw this documentary about some Christians who discriminated gay people to get attention to their cause - which was, if you are gay, or a gay lover (i.e. a person who don't mind gay people) you are going to die and burn forever in hell.

At one point they are all out protesting with banners and what not. So they've brought their children aswell, and the journalist asks a kid, what gay means... no answer - all the poor kid could say was that he hated then, and that they were sure to burn in hell.

I don't believe in death penalty, but sometimes I think the world would be a better place without these crazy people...

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

On top of that, if he doesn't even know what gay means, he may just turn out gay himself...
And later find out what it means, and be scared to death, or something. Or become gay after you already found out, but still. You can't just become not gay.

Uhm, anyway: I agree with Scarecrow. I don't mind anyone's beliefs (while I think mine are correct. :P ), but everyone should keep it to themselves and the people that share that belief. Too bad it's not possible, as Arseface described. If a Christian would suddenly try to convince me of his belief, I would -no doubt- try to convince him of my beliefs.

I don't. I think it's invigorating to know that this is the one chance you get, and you have to make the most of it. Embrace the challenge. Love life.

Re: Im back with a Brand-new rap!

Yeah, right. :P

Well, uhm, just that I believe there is no specific God, as in the existing religions. I do think, however, that the universe didn't ''just happen'', like a lot of people do. There must be a certain something beyond it. However, it's impossible to say what that something is, right now.
This apparently makes me agnostic. :D
