Internet Connection Required

I may be alone on this but, i dont have an internet connection at home due to renting out places every other 7-10 months. But whats ****ing me off is when i go out to check out and possibly buy a new game for my pc, i see on the box "Internet Connection Required" just for installation.

Now, this isnt something new to me, i used to play the hell out of CounterStrike:Source and HL:2, but i mean c'mon, i wouldnt mind being able to purchase a new game such as Mass Effect for my pc without having to be online just to prove to the company that i really bought it and didnt pirate their game.

I just think some of these companies should give us a break and a little more trust than they are now. oh well haha, whats your opinion on this matter?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I used to think Half-Life 2 was a nightmare to install, what with all that Steam installation and validation nonsense - even though, now I think Steam isn't that bad at all. But, from what I hear, things like online validation - which admittedly is a pain - is nothing compared to what owners of the PC version of BioShock had to go through in order to install and validate their copy; now that was overkill. Crikey.

Yeah, its mainly due to the piracy of PC games and companies getting tired of losing millions due to that. So they went overkill on online validation and security changes to make sure the games were legal versions.

What did they have to do?

BioShock Installs Upped to Five Per Copy - Voodoo Extreme

You can only install and uninstall the game 5 times per CD key. It started out at 2 times but after so many complaints they upped it to 5.

Well, I have the internet but if I hook up my xbox I'll loose my computers, internet.

Mine was the same at one point until i got myself a router.

I'll have to look into that. We have 4 internet connections, with 4 computers, belonging to each member of my family. Hope that's not a router.

Does that plug into the back of my laptop, and then the regular cable connection fits into that? My, there's so much to learn, but thank you for your patience.

Plugs into Laptop then Internet Cable goes into it, they usually have about 4 ports for 4 cabled appliances (PC's and consoles etc). Can also get more to use the Internet connection from it with the wireless signal it gives off. I have my PC, Xbox 360 running off mine with a cable and then a PC in another room off the Wireless.

If you have 4 computers connected you must have a router. Unless you are on dial-up and have 4 phone lines. If you are on high-speed, as in cable, satellite, or (god forbid)DSL, you will have a modem that you hook a router to. If it only has 4 connections, get one with more and keep everyone and everything online all the time.

The main hook up is in my sons' room. He put that box in there, where all the cables goes through walls, and connects to it. High speed internet. Only one phone line. But I'm very afraid, when a thunderstorms near. Dallas has a lot of competition, for internet service. So you can get a pretty good deal here.
