Is there a doctor in the house?
Preferably one with some skill.
So the story is, last week my dog got out of the house and got into a fight with my neighbors two dogs, who had also gotten out. Talk about bad luck. Long story short the fight was stopped and my dog had a small shallow cut on her lower neak. The cut was only about an inch long, and not very deep by any standard. But I thought I should have a vet check it out anyway.
So I took her to the vet at 2 in the afternoon, and the nurse there told me that a doctor whould not be in the clinique to check her out until 4pm. Seems to me that there ought to be a vet in the animal hospital in the middle of the day, dontcha think? Anyway, my dog had to stay over night because they would be putting her on anistisia (sp?) to stitch her up. Thats fine, dogs dont usually sit still while you sow up their necks.
I got her back the next morning, and they had put a "drain" in her neck. To do this, they had to make about a 3 inch insision where the original cut was (thus making it dissapeir entirely) and then another hole a few inches down for the drain to come out of. This drian was a short rubber hose, and was essentialy a large body peircing. By doing this they easily did 10x more damage than was originally there. A few days later we went back to have the drain removed. After removing it, they didnt stitch it back up and left the wound mostly open and uncovered. I was given instructions to keep it clean and it would start to close up on its own. It didn't. In fact if opened up a little more, so we took her back to the vet.
Upon inspecting it, the vet agreed that it needed to be closed up and she went under anistesia angain. They also charged me to fix what they didnt do right in the first place. Put price is no object when it comes to my dogs health so I paid up. Now get this, not only did they close it up this time, they also make the insision EVEN BIGGER. Now I would guess the insision to be about 10 inches long and 1/4 inch deep. WTF? At this point I would mutch prefer my dog to have the orginal injury and just treat it myself.
But it gets better, dogs don't like to listen to medical advice, no no no. In fact, she hates it. And she attempts to lick at at, but its to close to her head for her to turn around and reach it. So she scratches at it. They told me if she does that to put a sock around her foot, but that doesnt help. She scratches it anyway, and it doenst take her to long to get the sock off, and now she has broken one on the stitches. But it seems they used one continuous string to stitch it in the first place, so now the damn thing is unravled a bit and the wound opening again. I hobbled her back legs (like what they do to keep a horses pace slow) with a peice of rope so its impossible for her to scratch it anymore. But its 4am so I cant really do anything else untill the animal hospital opens again. I don't have any medical training but at this point I think I could do a better job, the bite isnt even a problem now. Its just a matter of fixing the mess the ****ing doctor made.
So, thoughts?
