Interesting, anyone care to explain?

The Japanese were quite mean to the Chinese in the early-to-mid 1900's.

Nazi Germany-kind of mean.

Famous examples:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

The Chinese hold demonstrations to call attention to it because from what I've gathered Japan, unlike Germany, isn't too keen on taking responsibility for what they did.

All this leads to there being a very strong anti-Japanese sentiment in China and things flare up easily.

If you want a film based on the events look up city of life and death (or is it just city of death :s) either way, worth checking out.

The riots are due to Japan purchasing islands in the East China Sea from their private Japanese owners, and China felt they weren't given a fair negotiation over the islands which are resource-rich. Riots then broke out from the Chinese protestors over it and now people are getting killed and injured over this unnecessary violence.

Goes back centuries and picked up recently in 2008 but you can look at it as the straw that broke the camel's back again.

Hmm interesting.. Off topic a little bit, And the Japanese Rising sun flag is really offensive to China and Korea, right? And dumb white people always have it every where and thin its "cool"..

Well, it's the ensign for the Imperial Japan Army that was used before and during WWII so for some people it's like a Nazi flag.

Yeah it is kinda like if Germany had kept the flag with the swastika after WW II ended.

Sure to rustle somone's jimmies.

Yeah I have a Rising Sun flag, I found it though, so it was free.. And I like Japan.. But I guess not in the evil/bad sense though..

My great grandad wasn't too keen on Japan from what I remember, he fought them back in WW2 and had a low opinion of them, imperial Japan at least. Mainly because of the atrocities and the way they treated POWs etc.

No point in being mad at Japan nowadays though, most japanese people nowadays weren't even alive when Nanking happened. It'd be nice if the government gave some kind of apology though, though I suppose if anyone brought it up they'd just respond with Hiroshima/Nagasaki and it would just respark long buried animosity.

I like what Japan has become though, Digital Cameras, robots, Video games, Anime, *Ahem* hentai *cough*, takeshi's castle. If it weren't for Japan I wouldn't have half the hobbies/interests I have now. Yup, I don't mind Japan.

Fun fact: Japan, to this day, refuses to teach about its mini-conquest of China during WWII. China is butthurt over this, naturally.

I love Japan. Godzilla and all that s**t is awesome.

People hate Japan? Well, my dad does, and the old 60 year old and older people in my country do (they once wreaked havoc when they conquered my country back in 1940-something). But most people I know don't.

It's really amazing how hard it is sometimes to just say 'sorry', pride's an awful thing sometimes. And I'm not just talking about Japan here.

Well, not that many people remember what Japan did so I guess it kind of died out in other countries.
