Re: Jewish-Americans?

titles are not enough. be sure to at least read the opening post.

lets see.... topic.... topic....

Jewish can be both a religion and a nationality. I dont remember where exactly they are from but a person could be both a Jew and a Christian. Or a Jew and Jewish. or Hispanic and Jewish. its a bit confusing.

Saying someone is a Jewish American makes perfect sence, but Jewish-American doesn't really. That little hyphen makes alot of difference. all this "-nationality" nonsense really should just go away. its mutch easyer just to go with black, white, hispanic, Italian, and so on. forget the nationality, its not that relivant most of the time. Its not nessisary to constantly confirm someones nationality as if it was always in question.

Stop being redundant TJ. you keep repeating what you have already said again. :P

gasp! ninjad again! Im going to go cry in the corner and complain that I never get to be the first coment on youtube!

Re: Jewish-Americans?

Another thing: What makes Italians so gosh darned special(or discriminated against, depending on how you see it)?

Italy is not a continent, its a country! Yet they have the honour(or dishonour, again depending on how you view this *X-American*-deal) of being allowed that label!

Asian-American? Yup, that's a continent.
African-American? Once again - a continent.

So in all fairness they should be called, at the very least, Italian-European-Americans!

Or you could just dump the stupid thing and call all American citizens Americans.

In the same way you have Germans, French, ect.
Maybe it has to do with them being white skinned, so you don't have to pull your punches, political correctness is a double standard, if you have a skin color darker then a pale "Caucasian" (I don't even really know what that means) you get some long label.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

^ I think all there needs to be is "African American" and thats it.. Not being racist or anything. I just think thats suitable and all that is needed. Or dont have anything at all?...

Edit: Jesus Christ! I keep getting Ninja'd!

Nothing at all would be preferred, because, again, black people aren't always American, or African (Some black people come from Australia too, the Aborigines), me I would be rather called black then "African-American".

Re: Jewish-Americans?

The very fact that you don't have European-American apply to white people pretty much proves that it is racially biased, if you ask me.

Also, pray tell why you think African-American has to stay, Scarecrow? Its just as incorrect and stupid as the others. Black people in America are American, just like everyone else living there as long as they have a valid citizenship.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

^ Haha I know, I know.. I just thought it was a bit MORE Suitable.. I dont really have a reason actually. Hah!

But.. Why dont they just get rid of it? Why dont they get rid of everything? We're all the same, Human.

Dont really reply to that.. because Even I am questioning what I jsut said.

Mabey because Italy is shaped like a boot and someone thought that was special enough to call them Italian-Americans?

But yes the whole thing should go away, or else we will be hearing about European Americans, Catholic Americans, Prodistant Americans, Canadian Americans, Bald Americans, Parapaligic Americans, Short Americans, Tall Americans, Golfing Americans, and it will go on and on untill the world runs out of Suicidal Americans!

Special interest groups.
They are the pinnacle of racism, sexism, and keeping people separated based on nonsense, they want special treatment so they can be "treated the same" but once you make even the smallest slip they call you a racist/sexist/ect.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

Argentinians, Brazilians, etc. are called americans too. =P
Race and nationality are 2 different things.

"U.S. Citizen" is fair enough.
"I'm a U.S. citizen. And I'm Jewish."

Yeah, as I said, up here you're either a Swede or *insert nationality*. I too am perplex as to why exactly you do use that *X/Y-American* system.

As for Asian people getting offended when you get it wrong - the day you can tell me as a Swede apart from Danes and Norwegians, that's the day I'll be sure to learn to tell the difference between a Korean and a Japanese person.

I always get it wrong. I just don't look a gift Viking in the mouth lol. Sorry if that makes NO sense, I don't know how to explain it without sounding like a perv.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

I want to go to another Cradle of Filth gig, the band themselves were crap but SCANDINAVIAN AND GERMAN MEN EVERYWHERE!

Anyway, back on topic. I hate this kind of thing, that's why I always say I'm English instead fo british, because I don'#t want to be considered as partly Scottish. I hate Scotland and everything about it, they gave us so many crap politicians.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

Are they Jewish-Americans because of race or because of religion?

Hello, I'm a Jewish-Jewish-American.

Hello, I'm a Christian-African-American

Re: Jewish-Americans?

My RE teacher told me that Judaism is both a race and a religion. Because of the holocaust and basically the Jews being blamed for everything inexplicable and negative, they have apparently been classed as a race now too.

Plus, Jews have been forced from their homes all throughout history, so it kinda makes sense that they are a race of people.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

You can't classify Jewish people as a race - that's just not possible. There are Jews around the world, of all the colours of the rainbow, each one belonging to their own induvidual race.

Which is why I found the term to be flunk in the first place.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

Aye that's what I personally think too, but it just seems to be how it is.

Re: Jewish-Americans?

Jewish is more of a nationality than a race. I dont remember where they are from but their race would be some sort of arab or something simmilar.
