Ours is Weetabix not Weet-bix and it doesnt look like that, similar but more of a cardboard texture. Also not new and has been around for many years.
Without sugar it really does taste how it looks... like dried cardboard or chipboard.

But seriously, I eat Weetbix (don't know if it's any different from this weetabix business, probably not) but usually piled on with sugar. It more refreshing without sugar though, so sometimes if I'm thirsty, I go for the sugar free version. I do four with a teaspoon of sugar for each one.
