Congratulations to Team Bondi and Rockstar as its just been announced that their highly anticipated crime thriller has been the first video game to be picked as an Official Selection at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games had the following to say about the news:
We're thrilled that L.A. Noire is being recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival in this way. It's a real honour, and another step forward for interactive entertainment.
The title is said to be taking pride of place at the event, which takes place in Lower Manhattan in New York from April 20th to May 1st.
Rockstar have also said that they will present an exclusive preview of the game as part of the Tribeca Talks series, taking place on April 25th. The presentation will feature a live interactive screening of a case featured in L.A. Noire, followed by a Q&A session. The Q&A will focus on the making of L.A. Noire, the technology behind it.
Geoff Gilmore, Tribeca Enterprises' Chief Creative Officer who will be moderating the session had the following to say about it:
What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking. It's an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier.
L.A Noire is due for release in May on Xbox 360 and PS3.

All this tells me is that it's more like a movie than a game.

A $60 movie.

If this were the case then MGS 4 and Heavy Rain would have been voted for it before. I think its due to it being the first game that accurately portrays the actors who voice the characters likeness as well as voice. As the actors are all the characters in the game too and not merely voices behind a face created for the game as the article states 'a new way of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion in games'.

The blend between cutscenes and in game gameplay is like nothing ive ever seen and most of the cutscenes are interactive and you have choices to make so thats a step ahead of MGS 4 in that aspect.

Precisely. More movie like than MGS4 and Heavy Rain.

Thank you for solidifying my opinion.

Thats not what i meant, they didnt have interactive cutscenes. MGS 4 was a movie pretty much with gameplay inbetween here and there not a bad thing but the main reason it didnt appeal to me, this weaves the 2 together so the cutscenes have choices and have to pay attention to clues in those too. I highly doubt there will be any huge lengthy cutscenes in this compared to MGS 4 for example where you could go and make dinner and come back and it still be going and not needing any user input.

I'm still buying it no matter what. I love that era in time, so I'm definitely looking forward to this game.
