Microsoft No Longer Producing Regular Xbox 360s

Microsoft has confirmed during its post- press conference / mass console giveaway "media roundtable" that it is no longer manufacturing the original Xbox 360 hardware in any form. A Microsoft representative has told Joystiq that the now-outdated machine will continue to be sold until stock runs out, but, after that, slim is totally in.

Good news as the original Xbox 360s will likely be discounted now, just like the original PS3s were when the Slim came out. However, I wonder if Microsoft will still support the 3-year warranty for the current 360s since the new Xbox Slim has only 1-Year, regardless of the RROD.

That's cool and all, I guess, but whats with this fascination with making technology smaller? Its the exact same console, only smaller. Ok... My house isn't getting any smaller, but that's ok I guess. Cell phones and MP3 players are getting smaller and smaller, my hands aren't getting any smaller though. My eyes are getting any better at using smaller screens either.

Smaller consoles are cheaper to manufacture and take up less power than their fatter brethren, there's also improved reliability & performance with the new revisions. So, it's technically not exactly the same as the previous 360 models.

But it is good for everyone.

Ideally the slim models won't have RRoD issues. Would save everyone on both sides a lot of money. I'm hoping that this is the case because I'm tired of all the QQing associated with it.

We'll see, hopefully it doesn't have the same issues that plagued the original 360s. I haven't heard of any issues for the PS3 slim so far (YLOD, BD-Drive issues, etc) nor experienced any with my own, so that's something.

Ah, its business as usual then. Makes perfect sense, thank you.

Re: Microsoft No Longer Producing Regular Xbox 360s

Makes sense for them to do this and im quite glad as it means that all versions of the current 360 will be phased out and merely leave the new models.

The Xbox Slim is possibly an attempt by Microsoft to try to re-boot the 360, but this time market it towards casual gamers, since they're more likely to purchase Natal in the future.

Bout time. Everybody I knew who got the standard white Xbox 360 got RROD within a year prior to the first play time, so not getting RROD would be a fantastic thing, plus the slim design and giant harddrive will work for me, I can finally store all 1500 gamer pictures and all my gamer profiles in a hard drive, as well as my 20+ arcade games... cough...

Re: Microsoft No Longer Producing Regular Xbox 360s

The only problem I can think of is this; how will we transfer the files from our old-style 360s to this new model with it's HDD of different design?

By doing it like this...

Re: Microsoft No Longer Producing Regular Xbox 360s
