GamePro said:
Gear Live editor Andru Edwards states that his replacement Xbox 360 failed after only 20 minutes of use. Prior to that, he waited three weeks after sending in his first Xbox 360 due to the "Red Ring of Death" error. The replacement unit had been manufactured on Aug. 15, 2007 according Edwards.
"I had to manually turn off the [second] Xbox 360 because it wouldn't even respond to the guide button. I turned it back on, and after 20 minutes was presented with yet another Three Red Ring Circus," he writes.
When announcing the extended three year warranty in July, Microsoft vaguely implied that improvements were already being made to the console. Earlier this month, video game journalist Dean Takahashi reported that more reliable Xbox 360 units are quietly en route to retail.
In an effort to ease the burdens of owning a faulty Xbox 360, Microsoft is reportedly sending either a free game or a free one month Live Gold subscription to inconvenienced gamers.
