Mitch Hedberg: "You can't please all of the people all of the time, and last night all of those people were at my show..."

Sucks yer not happy with the game man. Maybe I'm wrong in saying if you like Fable it's a sure bet. Maybe Fable 2 is the game all the people like me were hoping for the first time around and were so disappointed, whereas the people that liked Fable were hoping for more of the same.

Re: My Fable 2 Review

EvolAdvocate, first of all, +rep for the effort of writing one of the best reviews I've ever seen. Not many people want to spend time discussing the reviews. t seems you do, and that's why I like you.
Now... onto the quoting part, and my opinion of your reviews...

In RL, if an epic demon walked into a town I really don’t think many people would rise to challenge it just for walking down the street. Furthermore, if it felt like it wanted to buy something from the store I’m pretty sure it would get a reduced price if it “asked” for it. What I’m getting at here is that the world of Fable 2 actually allows you to be the epiphany of evil and still realistically exist within a world where you walk around, talk to people, and buy things. You get reduced prices the more people fear you, some women love you because you’re the bad boy, and you can still be regarded as pursuing the primary plotline in revenge as opposed to being an evil character that is doing something good.
Precisely. This makes the gameplay of Fable 2 very, very intruiging, nice, and fun. However, as I do not like being Evil, I'll still stick to the Pure part, but that doesn't change the fact that the Fable 2 AI is perfect. And with that I mean, really perfect.

I very much like the infrastructure additions, allowing you to own and rent out real estate, and even own and manage any of the stores in the game. It’s pretty rare for a building NOT to have a sign out front that allows you to buy it based on a number of criteria (ie. Town Economy, Owner Health, Opinion of Hero).
Indeed! The infrastructure does make the game more realistic as well, as it's the purpose of Fable 2, actually. However, I do not like the amount of gold a building costs. They should have changed it to a higher amount. This quote pretty much sums up my thoughts about Fable 2's infrastructure.

Marriage is much more interesting this time around as well, allowing you to have children that grow and love you. I really liked that they give you bonus evil points for sacrificing the mother of your children to the devil. That was a nice touch.
Totally agreed. The Fable 1 version just sucks. Although most of my characters in Fable 2 are either Gay or Bisexual, I do watch the amount of times I have sex.

Let me just say this: I really enjoyed the final 30 minutes of the experience and thought they did a fantastic job of making me feel like it was my own little adventure, completely unique to me.
Hmm, what do you mean specifically? Personally I didn't enjoy the last thirty minutes, but rather the first 30 minutes. But each of us have their own opinion, am I right?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the dog. Do you have a dog? Are you interested in seeing the best dog AI you’ve ever seen, surpassing even the likes of Nintendogs? Play this game. They have matched the way an unleashed dog runs with his owner perfectly, how it runs just ahead of him until he changes direction, then slowly realizes he’s not going the right way anymore and catches up. He looks at items of interest, growls at unfriendly people, gets afraid and happy, and will even help you find treasure and tell you where to dig with your shovel. The dog rules.
The dog was indeed, the best thing in Fable 2. What would me character be without his dog? I bet Lionhead had spent most of the time creating all of the dog's animations. It's just perfect.

inventory management, such as 17 pages of Lucien’s diary being 17 distinct inventory objects, were completely unforgivable. I spent probably 10% of my time in this game in the pause menu and there was not that much management to be done.
Yea, it was very annoying having 17 pages of Lucien's diary. They could've stacked 'em up IMO...

Also, why is it that I can’t throw away any objects or at least opt not to pick them up? Once you’ve opened a chest, or searched a closet, you are taking that item in your inventory until you make it to a shop and sell it. This leads to really disorganized and clunky inventory menus, and it doesn’t help that they are tremendously slow as well. Sometimes just buying an item from the store would freeze the game for 5 seconds. 5 SECONDS! TO BUY AN ITEM!
It's a shame, yes. Oh well, I don't think it's such a big deal having many items in your inventory. I wouldn't want to throw away valuable items! Every gold piece counts!

Re: My Fable 2 Review

Hey, cool, thanx for all the kind words Datahero.

As for the last 30 minutes, I just really liked the way they went back over all your choices, in both game and appearance, and gave you a sort of flashback through the adventure.

I also thought that the childhood dream, where your sister begs you not to investigate the music, and how the atmosphere changed the further into the fire you got, was very well done.

Lack of final bosses, or final bosses that are way too easy, seems to be a growing trend in games, though. I have to admit I'm not too happy about that. I can't remember the last time a final boss even killed me once, probably Gears of War 1.
