Pop music used to mean popular music. Now however 'Pop' refers to that kind of computer edited sounding music like Rhianna and Jessie J, and various other artists ('artist' being used in the broadest possible term here). Sum 41 do not fall into this category. You're thinking of mainstream. They might be mainstream but as they don't use autotune and they use real instruments instead of electronic noises made by a computer, they are not pop.
For example; dubstep is mainstream, but it is dubstep, not pop.
