Necro Theory

here me, fellow projectegoers. we have all bared witness to the constant plague of the necro. where does the necro come from?

i say he googles his problems, and finds our site, and then registers to post. not realizing that the thread he desires participation from is being brought back from the dark abyss of 2007 or 2008. being so high in google priority, we are an easy target for the necro and for his posts.
/attempted oldspeak

i propose we have a timer on every thread. when the timer expires (one year after most recent activity?) the thread is automatically locked.

what say ye?
:D

Re: Necro Theory

Not a bad shout but at least a whole bunch of new threads about old topics aren't popping up aswell.
A timer sounds like a pretty good solution tho so I'm all for it, unfortunately they will just make new threads asking people to help them. The worst is seein someone answer someones question in a thread a YEAR or even TWO later ! That is SOOOO annoying ! I think Daemon and a fair few others wud agree ;)

Re: Necro Theory

Some of the modding threads need to be necro'd from time to time if people are having major problems and can't follow guides. If this rule is applied then maybe it'd be a good idea not to include the modding subforum.

Re: Necro Theory

Its a double edged blade really because if someone joins and posts a new thread thats already had one made about the topic then people always tell them to 'Use the search function'. Sometimes when they do they just find lots of threads about said topic but no answers in any of them so they make a new one.

On the other hand (like the one i replied to recently) people find a thread discussing the exact issue they want to make a thread about but that thread didnt have an answer in it. So they revived it to save making a new topic and people telling them to use the search function. Only for people to moan about reviving an old thread, either way some people cant win. So i usually leave it down to a case by case basis as some revives can be warranted but others cant.

Re: Necro Theory

Posting a new thread to ask a question is always totally fine with me, even if others have asked the same thing.

Posting a new thread to discuss a topic that's already been discussed is usually okay with me, but not if there's been a ton of threads made on that topic recently.

In short, starting a new thread is always preferable to resurrecting an old one for me.

I dont mind as long as its not someone resurrecting something to say 'I agree' or 'lol' or something. Id prefer a new thread instead of resurrecting an old one too but sometimes i do let the odd resurrection slide if i havent seen many threads about it recently or a question hasnt been answered.
