Need Photoshop Help

I'm using CS2, and I'm trying to crop, so I can save it as a round image, but everytime I crop it gives me a stupid square background then I can't get rid of, I've tried the whole Ctrl + I Inverst bullcrap and that doesn't work. Wtf do I do?

There is no such thing as a round image - they are all square except the corners have been made transparent.

If you want transparent corners then use the elliptical marquee tool, copy your selection and paste it onto a new layer.

You then make the background layer transparent and save it as a GIF.

Tell me if this doesn't work.
