New Gun!

All you Englishmen out there should be proud, for I have purchased a beautiful piece of English military history! Not just two hours ago did I purchase a Short Model Lee-Enfield rifle, the second great rifle of the British Empire (the first being the Brown Bess). At only $235 dollars I couldn't have passed this one up.

It fires a .303 round, the one on the bottom. The top is a .50 caliber round, something I doubt many have really seen or held in person. The quarter is there for size comparison.

Re: New Gun!

Cooool. You should get a flintlock pistol, that'd be cool too.

Re: New Gun!

I almost bought a Kentucky Pistol last year, but I figured the blackpowder and cap-n-ball system was more trouble than I was looking for.

You're right it is more trouble. When you're done shooting ball and cap, you have the smell of gunpowder, and smoke on you. I love to shoot single shoot six shooters for practice. I have a Ruger, it's a really fun gun at the range.:)
Nice gun.

Nice gun.

I'm one of those people who loves the smell of gunpowder. I'd wear a gunpowder cologne if they made it.

Rugers are great guns, accurate, tough as nails, expensive but worth each penny.

Re: New Gun!

the .50 round... what do/did they use it for?

It seems a little too big to shoot people with, I think?

Do a quick Wikipedia search on it.

And it's not too big, no gun is too big.

Re: New Gun!

Nice rifle. I have an Enfield also. I love it. It is one of the most accurate rifles ever made. Mine is a 1943 Mark III. I have had this particular one since I was 6 years old. I have bought and sold several .303's, but have never been able to part with this one. I put it on a synthetic Monte Carlo stock, added a strap, scope mount, scope, and bipod. It is the only rifle I have ever been able shoot accurately with any consistency at 300+ yards. I am what some call a 'gun nut' btw.

Finally, someone who is as big a gun nut as myself on this forum!

Nice looking rifle my friend, but I believe Mil-Surp rifles are left best in their original states.

Re: New Gun!

The original stock on this one had been sporterized already when my dad got it for me. I have an original Mauser clone from that India I got a few years ago that I plan to keep as is. I buy and resell alot. Since becoming disabled I have sold off most of the weapons in my personal collection that I can no longer shoot, at least 15 guns. I only have 14 now. Some I can't shoot, but don't want to get rid of. I have grown emotionally attached to these few I have left, lol.

:( That sucks, especially after having such a collection. But after having a gun for so long you cannot help but become attatched to it. It becomes like a child almost!

Re: New Gun!

Here are all the pistols I kept. The Colt .38 Police Positive is one my dad carried as a pocket gun when I was a little kid, it's the first firearm I ever shot. The Smith and Wesson .38 spc has been my pocket gun since 1992. The Taurus has an 18 rd mag for competition shooting, I keep it in case I ever get back into that, and it's a cool pistol. The others I kept because I grew attached to them, even though they have no real sentimental value.

Re: New Gun!

One of my friends has a Taurus just like that, it's a pretty solid pistol.

I've always had a spot for the Ruger Security Sixes, and .357's in general.

Re: New Gun!

I got rid of an S+W N-frame .357 and a Colt Python .357 a few years ago.
I enjoyed the caliber, but it is too powerful for me now. All I target shoot
with on a regular basis lately is a Marlin .22 rifle and the Colt .22, no kick.
I shoot short rounds from an old single shot .22 in my back yard alot.
I am slowly making a smaller stock for it for my 3 y.o. nephew, he loves
guns already. I figure in another year he can start shooting that one,
I have him on airsoft guns now and he has learned to be careful with them.

Re: New Gun!

I love it when kids start learning about firearms at a young age, because they develop a healthy and responsible understanding of weapons.

Re: New Gun!

Great pic. I feel the same way about kids learning early. I started shooting firearms at age 5 and I have never had an accidentally discharge. Education is the key to guns safety. I have guns in my home and my nephew is here alot so I taught him that my guns are not toys as soon as I thought he would understand. More than once he has gotten here before I took my pistol off my desk and he has commented on it, but never tried to touch it. I still keep them out of reach just to be safe though.

Re: New Gun!

Sorry to chime in but I just wanted to give my two cents: I heartily agree that respect must taught at a young age, especially in today's modern society where a gun has become a symbol (or badge if you will) of reputation in gangs where half the time the members don't even known what type of firearm they are carrying. All they care about is whether they can point and shot something. Even then they tend to miss about nine out of ten times.

The interesting thing about gang violence is that it's normally 4 gangbangers with semi-auto pistols against 10 innocent children playing in the street. Forget a rival gang, those cowardly f*cks go shoot at kids.

And in the end out of 40 rounds only one hits its "mark".

What is horribly frightening is that some of these gangs have "rituals" in which the person being newly initiated into the gang is required to shoot a predetermined target. For example, the Latin King , a gang that operates in the New York/Massachusetts area, require some of their new members to shoot a police officer to be accepted into the gang.

Re: New Gun!

FableFreaks Solution to Gang Violence

1. Arrest all noted gang members from all corners of the country.
2. Build a giant "Gang Reservation" at the Nevada Nuclear Testing Facility.
3. Give the gangs fully automatic weapons with all the ammo they ever need.
4. Let the problem take care of itself. If they don't kill each other the radiation will.
