I also read, that the dog, if hurt enough, would limp home if ignored. So what then?

Haha - one can only hope they have the brainpower enough to not make your character that dependant on the dog so that you'll be left helpless if that happens! :P

"MY PUPPY IS MISSING! ALL IS LOST! *breaks down sobbing*"

Re: No HUD

Perhaps they'll mold a ressurect feature in the dog - if you "die" but the dog is alive, he'll drag your mauled body back to camp and nurses you back to health - a real Lassie!

....

Seriously though, I don't mind all this talk about the damn mutt, but I sure hope they don't make it too big of a part in the game... I don't like dogs, I am a cat person. If I can, I'll probably try the game without the mutt.

It is absolutely imperative that the dog be nothing but helpful and never, ever bothersome or cumbersome; to achieve this, the dog has a very complex AI that reacts to all of your actions accordingly.

To demonstrate, there was a pack of little gobliny things, one with a sword, one with an axe and one with a gun. The dog knows which weapon your character is wielding at any time, and will go for one of the enemies with a different weapon. So if you have a sword out, he will immediately try and disable the enemy with the gun.

"So, you could just go on ahead and head to town. Go to the pub and have a drink. Then, hours later, you hear a scratch at the door... someone will go to check and ask, 'Who would do such a thing to an animal?' and then the people will know it was you and their opinion of you will lessen".

Re: No HUD

I was told by a robot that the dog can't die in regular battle.
I also heard that one of the designers through the ball over the cliff and the dog followed.

It's a joke referencing Lassie which by the way Peter Watched a ton of when designing the dog
