Ok.. So I tried oblivion.. Needless to say that after half-1 hour i stopped playing.. I hated it! In my opinion it was toooooo compicated for no reason! You could have so many things, do this, do that, maaaaany bottons and toooo many variables! Why??? Why make a game so complicated for no reason??? And I mean complicated on the handling..

Even on dante's inferno that i'm currently playing and almost finishing i rarelly bother with many updates as i don't see any real use.. Atleast here some things DO make sense! Like in Bioshock..

I mean.. Sooo many buttons, combinations, variables.. If i have to study for a week the game haaaaaard in order to play it then.. where is the fun????

I ask because i bought the latest final fantasy and i'm unsure if i'll play it... I just played 10 minutes with noise so i want to check it more first but if i see another gazillion combinations i'm out!

Any opinons?

Well Oblivion is a game that you invest many, many hours into, rather then the instant gratifactaion one would get from, let's say Call of Duty. I tried playing it too and dislike it for the same reason, I simply don't have enough time to spend on a game. The only game I will invest in is Assassin's Creed, cause I think the storyline is very interesting.

I didnt find Oblivion hard on consoles, button prompts tell you the buttons most the time when you are needed to do something. Granted the game world is huge and can be confusing where to go and some items you will never need to pick up because they have no use but i wouldnt say it had hard controls at all and there are no button combinations to learn. Its no harder than Fallout (which you like) and uses the same engine and systems for a lot of the game but sometimes in different ways but the core is the same.

It's not so much for how long you play a game but how long does it take you to learn to navigate in it..

ex. fable (if you want to stand back and watch) takes about 30 hours to be completed fully and to give you satisfaction.. bioshock can take from 10-40 hours depending on your speed, how fast you search and if you have a great experience in the gender of the game. and don't forget tht if you don't go for the achievements games can go down maaaaany hours

BUT oblivion was to tricky for me.. maybe it can be the fact that is an old game with different mentality and style..

semi-OT: dark drakan: I haven't had the chance to play fallout a lot.. the games mentioned as on the rocks are from 20 min. to 1-2 hours in only.
on dante's even though i do make the level ups i rarelly use the combinations given.. and almost never use magic/mana. I tend to prefer simple system with lovelly unfolded story (fable, bioshock, sain't row etc.. all in one hand with little to really remember off in use)

Oblivion tends to leave you to your own premises and craft how you get to places and gives you much more customistion than most RPG's that simply push you towards another objective while giving you the odd side quest in between to break away from main quest. Oblivion is mainly filled with Side Quests but main story is around 20-30 hours long but with side quests and complete completion it could take 100+ hours easy. Oblivion came out 2 years after Fable so i wouldnt say it was that old.

Oblivion is one of the greatest RPG ever made, they must of done something right.

I like Oblivion, it's just that Oblivion is a game that you need to take in moderation. I can play Fable or Fable II over and over again and not get bored with it, but if I'm playing Oblivion I have to take breaks from it, play other games, then eventually come back to it.

Fable was designed with the casual and younger gamers in mind while Oblivion was designed for old school gamers and RPG fanatics in mind and an older audience so it takes a little dedication to get into.

everyones pretty much said oblivions strengths and weaknesses. it took me a while to get into it. the absolute best advice i can give to someone who wants to get into it is to choose a faction (fighters guild, mages guild, thieves guild, assassins guild) and build your character to excel in that field. you only have to bother learning the games features little bits at a time and won't be overwhelmed. if you start with a mage character then there's a spell for everything pretty much and all you need to know is how to cast and buy spells. shelf the main quest for a while and have fun doing quests as the ultimate badass.
then AFTER you've finished a faction quest line or 2 and have some cool loot to show for yourself, THEN start on the main quest. i made a wood elf/archer/thief, started the dark brotherhood (assassins guild) and haven't looked back since. he completed every faction quest in the game, the main quest, all side quests, the shivering isles.

now i'm doing it all again with a thief/hand to hand specialist. replay value gets 10/10 with all the customization.
insane.

(I'm using bold to stand this answer out) I THINK THAT'S THE MAIN REASON I DON'T FIND IT APPEALIING.. TOO HARDCORE FOR ME..

The first one.

It takes a little dedication but i dont have that much time to game and i got through it until a patch ruined my saves and i couldnt be bothered to start again.

I really liked Oblivion because of it's scope. The sheer mass of things to do is something that really appeals to me.

Huge world that has lots to do and doesnt feel empty, lots of customisation, freedom to do as you wish and great replay value. Im excited for Skyrim i have to say & i didnt even finish Oblivion as my saves got corrupted with a new patch.

Yeah, hopefully the new engine doesn't have anywhere near the amount of bugs that Gamebryo does.

Jesus Christ I hated Oblivion.

The controls were NOT that complicated to find out, just bulky and hard to use to me. Then, everything was so... looked unprofessionally.... well... I am not sure how to put it. I hated it. First Person RPG isn't for me either, the third-person is awful. Took me forty times to hit someone I swear.

Try playing Morrowind. AWFUL.

Yeah, the Gamebry games do take a little imagination on your part to become immersive.

Oblivion?

Hard?

The game levels everything up with you. The game never gets challenging, there are no high level hard areas in it...

Which is why Morrowind was so much better.
