Oblivion and "hard" games

Oblivion?

Hard?

The game levels everything up with you. The game never gets challenging, there are no high level hard areas in it...

I hated level scaling, such a pain and made you feel that your character was getting nowhere. You levelled up and so did the enemies, also as Arseface said i have high hopes for this new engine and hope its much better than the old bug filled one.

If I can't go back to a low level dungeon and slaughter tons of low level enemies such as goblins with my super-powerful high level character... where is the feeling of progression?

Jesus Christ I hated Oblivion.

The controls were NOT that complicated to find out, just bulky and hard to use to me. Then, everything was so... looked unprofessionally.... well... I am not sure how to put it. I hated it. First Person RPG isn't for me either, the third-person is awful. Took me forty times to hit someone I swear.
it did take some getting used to, and it isn't for everybody. it may have reached that stage in a games age where it's graphics and whatnot are so different from the current standard that first-timers can't get into it. i tried getting my friend into oblivion - he hated it. i handed him fallout 3 and he bought it for himself along with every expansion.

it's kind of sad, the life of a great video game that can't be timeless.

Try playing Morrowind. AWFUL.

no, morrowind suffers from the same problems. i own it, i've tried it, and it's just too retro for me to really get immersed. i'm not used to needing to level up in order to land a hit on an enemy. i'd argue that either the same goes for you, or console RPG's in general aren't your bag, baby.

my advice: get either fallout 3 or fallout new vegas to see what the system is like in a different, more structured, scenario.

i didn't mind it too much personally. though i do remember my boss praising fallout 3 down to it's droppings because he couldn't wander into the games more hazardous areas as a level 1. i can see some of the appeal of it, but for me it's harder to admire the protagonist of an RPG if he/she isn't as amazing as i wanted them to be from the beginning.

I think it just takes some of the fun out of levelling up away. I want to feel im no match for certain enemies until i level up and get better attributes and abilities. Then when i have i no longer have to avoid areas and retreat, makes you feel more badass and as if your character has advanced from the relative weakling they were to a fearsome bringer of death.

And does it gets pretty silly when you see even the lowliest of bandits and thugs decked out in full Daedric Armour/Weapons.

Yeah, that was rather frustrating. Once rare armour is now everywhere...

I don't like being able to blast through a game just because my guy is supposed to be the 'badass hero'. Morrowind is fun for me, because I don't have a red marker thats tells me where I need to go. The knocking out feature was a bit silly, but I liked the realism overall. I think its good that you can go everywhere but you have to avoid creatures, if you aren't a high level. Remember the saying,"Theres always somebody better than you.". But I don't like the armour levelling.

I also found a doomstone in oblivion predicting the Hero's death. Just goes to show that they are not gods.

Many of the people who enjoy Oblivion have a history of playing RPGs similar to them (Myself included.) Truth be told, I didn't find it hard. I took to it like a fish to water. As I said though I have a preference for games such as these, plenty of customisation, tons of quests, plenty of lore. Just My kind of thing.

That's why mods are your best friends when it comes to Elder Scrolls games.

You really, reaaaaally want Morrowind for the PC, yeah.
