Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

Okay, for those of you who missed it, Here is my inaugural post.

Down to business,... May contain spoilers, and I don't know how to do that "hide spoiler" thing, so, continue reading at your own risk!

Okay, I'm seriously ****ed at Reaver. First, he destroys Oakvale, then he makes me help him keep it that way. So I come back, after doing something I don't want to do, but have to, and then, right in front of me, he kills the only lifelong friend I've had, Barnum. And why did he kill my good friend? Because it would take too long to "developerize" his portrait. Now, honestly, good or evil, if you've never been to Oakvale, that would be enough to want to kill Reaver.

Ever been to Oakvale?

In another life, I grew up there. It was a beautiful, peaceful little village. No crime to be found, except for the occasional case of adultery, or a snotty little child stealing teddy bears. Oh, and and a few times, I came back and slaughtered everyone for the sake of real estate. And remember, you can't spell slaughter without laughter.
Then, the Bandits came, and Oakvale survived. Thrived, even. Even their cemetery was a nice, quiet little place to visit a lost loved one.
Entering Oakvale, not only the first time, but every time, was quite something to behold.
I'd run down lush, green grass on a path between two cliff faces. As the mist cleared on the horizon, on my left I saw another lush pathway, on my right, freshly-ploughed wheat fields, and straight ahead, I saw the most wonderous sunlight cascading over a magnificently architectured, redwood, or possibly cherry wood, covered bridge. As I passed under this bridge, a friendly guard would remind me not to draw my weapon in town. Once I sheathed my sword, I would run down a light slope for a few metres, right into a quaint little town square, with a few shops for those in need, a peaceful, little neighborhood and a beach, just to the right, an ever-growing city with a might dock on the left, and straight ahead, was the greatest pub in all of Albion. 'Twas truly, the greatest place in the world to visit.

Now, five hundred years later, I return to the world of Albion. As I enter the area which was once Darkwood, arriving through a Cullis gate which has lain inactive for over a thousand years, I see a familiar setting.
It's Darkwood. Dreary, miserable, covered in a thick, nauseating swamp. This is as it should be. However, I'm about to learn why Darkwood is this way.\
I travel on, a great distance, past a familiar, albeit ruined, house. As I travel on, I encounter a Banshee, and defeat it easily. I examine the area where the banshee appeared, and notice several demolished, swamp-coated houses.
Things are looking up.
It would appear as though the Oakvale farmers expanded too far, and found the swamp was too much.
As I travel on down the road, through a broken, iron gate, coming upon a broken, rocky pathway, I notice I am between two rock faces. I walk forward slightly, into the mist. The mist now gave way to a light haze, the path before me clearing up gradually. As it cleared, on my left I saw a dangerous, crumbled path running up a cliff. On my right, I saw broken fences, and dirt fields with broken scarecrows so old that it seemed a light breeze would crumple them. I took a few more steps forward, the haze clearing more, to reveal a horribly battered, twisted, yet somehow, perfectly stable, redwood or cherry wood, covered bridge.

I actually cried.

Okay, so after telling you how seeing that bridge made me feel, on to the theory. It's more of a wish, actually.

I want to kill Reaver. I heard about the three (returning?) regions of Albion, and if there's one that wasn't in Fable 2, but is still in Albion, it's gotta be Oakvale. What I would really love to do, is have them introduce a story, or quest, where you seek out Reaver, wherever he is now, and bring him before the Shadow Court. Maybe then, we can all get revenge on Reaver, and restore Oakvale to its former glory, maybe even bringing it to its full potential that was seen in the first game.

Any input?

Well, we all missed Oakvale as much as you did, and I too succumbed to tears when I saw my old home engulfed by the marshes of Reaver's greed... In fact, when 'See the Future' came out, I was beyond tears again when I strolled through a whole and untouched Oakvale....

Yes, it is a very definite thing that Reaver will be there in Fable 3 as he is near immortal, and it will be an awesome thing to track him down and repay him of his cruel deeds!

No one takes Oakvale away without MY permission!

i missed oakvale too but i got over it fast :P i was like:

"aw sh!tty:(...moving on"

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

yeah that would be cool BUT why the hell would Sparrow's Kid (protaganist for fable III) care about oakvale, hell Sparrow had never know oakvale...would be cool though

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

Since thousands of fans want to kill Reaver, I think that if you go to Samarkand (if you remember, he chose to go there) you'll have a choice to revolt against him and kill him with your followers or side with him.

Just a thought.

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

I must say, the idea intrigues me.

Now, back on topic.

On a personal level, speaking on behalf of an unspoken viewpoint within this particular topic, I would not exterminate Reaver even given the chance. Good Anti-heroic qualities are so hard to accomplish without getting cliche now-a-days.

Do I miss Oakvale?
>>>Quite.

Do I miss it enough to kill the only tolerable Hero (opinion) introduced thus far?
>>> Not even if they gave me all legal rights to the Fable© Franchise.

Nice idea for the "I Hate Reaver" groupies, but I'm going to have to pass on this one. :- )

That was quite a mouthful, I bet you're used to that kind of thing

But really, you have a way with words there, I read it all and enjoyed the juxtaposition. Good stuff. I completely forgot your point though, but I too would like to kill Reaver. +Rep for the read.

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

An Idea would be that, a new DLC come out in which you can save oakvale and return it to its original self. That way, in Fable 3, the impact of your actions in fable 2 are more visible. Like In a normal Fable 3, no Oakvale, But in the a different Fable 3 Oakvale would be thriving again. ANd I guess It can pass a few more years into your game and you can see your kids grow up a lil more. It would be like a gift to fable veterans.

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

So its okay for you to slaughter the villagers but when someone else does it, its horrible?

Reaver has suffered for what he has done. I dont see how killing him would make it "all better".

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

+rep just for the 'can't spell slaughter without laughter' lol.

But in all seriousness, I would be extremely surprised if Reaver didn't come back. You either love him or you hate him - I personally love him lol. stephen fry FTW.

And Fable 3 has Jonathon Ross too.

I think the reason that Oakvale was in See The Future was for that purpose entirely; there were so many fans outraged at the destruction of Oakvale, they saw it as a novelty to put in.

"Goodnight all. Must go to bed. Got asked to do voice in Fable 3 tonight. Subarashi. Oyasuminasia. Woss out."

I hope they give his character lots of R's to pronounce.

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

I hate reaver becase he is so damn annoying and pompous. Everytime he speaks I want to jam the daichi right up his "rear passage".

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

My first thought was about some DLC in which you could restore Oakvale, but pondering deeper into that, it became apparent, for a number of reasons, that it's a dumb idea. It's best saved for a quest in a sequel, if it happens at all.

And that so-called "Oakvale" in the snowglobe looked nothing like the Oakvale I remember, save for the bridge and the path. Sure, Madam Ursula's school was there, but Madam Ursula's school is out beyond where Oakvale west should have been. There was no tavern, the beaches were all joined, and both Oakvale East and West were not there. That's why I'm so dissatisfied and really want to kill Reaver. Killing him won't "make it all better" but it will help.

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

Did you actually cry, or was that a joke?

Personally, I miss oakvale. It was my favourite place in F1. Would I kill Reaver? Yes. Even though he is the most interesting of the three heroes. AND HE'S VOICED BY STEPHEN FRY!!!!

Re: Okay, not really a Fable III "theory," but,...

In my opinion, Reaver is a pompous jerk. He should pay for what he did to Oakvale!:( I wanted to shoot him the first time I saw him...DOWN WITH REAVER! Ok...on a more serious note...I think that in Fable III you should be able to choose to exact revenge on him if you see fit, as you are the king (or queen) of Albion. It would be nice to take him to the Shadow Court and watch him age away to dust and see all of his sacrifices be revived and their youth returned.
