Seriously, they're still in their packages! I haven't even seen them up-close for almost a year. That's kind of sad. Almost as sad and lazy as me not changing my calendar for a whole year this month! :P

Extended editions are much better - if you have 12 hours handy, of course. Lock yourself away, unwrap the films and enjoy :D

LotR will be three of the first films I get when I get my HDTV
I can't wait until The Hobbe :P

Re: Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema to produce "The Hobbit"

I actually believe that the movies went well, and I am a huge LOTR fan, they just had to tweak it a bit to make it into a movie-length experience.

I cannot wait for this movie! The Hobbit is that kind of book that really doesn't need changing. But they HAVE to include these people and events:
-Tree top warg scene
-Goblin King
-Discovery of the ring, Gollum, and the riddle game (a must, for example, "Tell me what's in my pocket"), and the Misty Mountains in general.
-Elves scene + Elrond encounter
-Troll scene + Gandalf's trick to turn them into stone.
-The swords (biter, etc)
-Etc etc (Smog, Battle of Five Armies)

One of the things they have to include is the encounter with Beorn, and any fan of the series knows if Beorn isn't included, the movie will be ruined. He affects the story too much to be left out. (Also, perks like Gandalf's mention of Radagast should be included, since Gandalf isn't the only great wizard in Middle Earth)

With Pete and Fran producing the movie, I know if they choose the right parts of the book, it will be as good as the LOTR movies turned out.

I also believe that the first movie should end when the Gandalf bids farewell to the dwarves and Bilbo, and the group of heroes walk towards the dark woods. This is a great ending for me because it makes you guess what's next, and it is very convenient. I also believe the Mirkwood introduction was about at the middle-ish of the book, so what could go wrong

But what I am most excited about is Smaug, and how they will interpret him.

The troll scene is indeed something they just HAVE to include - after all, Bilbo is telling this story to the children at his birthday party in the Fellowship of the Ring so it would make for a nice little connection for people to recognise :D

Yea...and I can't wait for the part when the trolls fight each other, because unlike any trolls so far in the films...these talk, so it's just a very humorous scene.

I really hope Alan Lee is coming back to the films. You can thank him for 70% of the art and direction on what Middle Earth would appear to be (and many other artists). Just look at his Smaug and Mirkwood design:

Another part of the movie I can't wait for is the Battle of the Five Armies...that was an epic part in the books for me.
