PLEASE READ: New Dedicated Server! Hurrah!
Hi guys,
This is important. Please read this entire post.
Some good news: Project Ego.net is now situated on its very own dedicated server which I'm hiring. This means that you will see a genuinely improved difference in performance from this site; There should no longer be nearly as much downtime, slowness and whatnot. Which is good, jes? Basically you can expect to be part of a new ultra sexy, ultra stable Project Ego.net.
It also means I can do a heck of a lot more with the site. I'm now able to make ALOT of enhancements and add a heck of alot more features without worry of my host contacting me and threatening to disconnect any of my network due to the stress the site was causing before.
Special thanks to TotalChoice Hosting dedicated server support engineer, Jesse J. Salens, for being so awesome and keeping me up to date with the goings-on with the dedicated server.
Now the not-so-good news (for me anyway): With the brand new dedicated server comes a much, much higher fee. I won't disclose how much because it would make you cry (^_^). I will however say that virtually all the money that is made from the website is going back into funding the dedicated server. I cannot afford the dedicated server if the earnings from my network of sites drops much further. However, that isn't likely to happen anytime soon - I hope.
However, I will need your help. I will need everybody's help to keep the sites alive.
You will be pleased to know however that I am not hinting at donations or anything of that nature. However, if you did decide to become a premium member that would be fantastic. I've decided to radically drop the prices of the Gold subscriptions down to just £5 / $10 in light of the new dedicated server being launched, too. And since I am now in control of my very own dedicated server, it means I can include extras like webhosting and webspace to subscribers.
Anywho, what I really need that is even more invaluable than donations or premium subscriptions is a little thing called 'backlinks'. Backlinks is what drives the traffic to this site. Since the launch of Project Ego.net we have managed to aquire around 15,000 total backlinks if I'm not mistaken. That includes links to us from: blogs, forum, topsites, directories, etc etc.
The more links pointing to us, the higher we rank in the search engines. The higher we rank, the more visitors. The more visitors, the more potential money the site makes. My full-time job are these sites and I spend pretty much every minute of my time on the internet scouring the internet for possible places to link to us.
All you need to do to help, is to include a link back here on the other sites you visit. Just a simple Fable 2 link in your signature at another forum benefits us in so many ways. If you're a member of any other Fable forums or even Lionhead.com then this is all the more better for us.
Linking to us with the text, "Fable 2" means that Google and the other search engines will help raise our rankings for that particular term. I also ask that you consider linking to each and every other site under our network if you can, even if you don't like the subject they might be about, further promoting the other sites indirectly help benefit this site too.
I want to offer a special thank you to Albion Knight in particular. I'm always blown away by just how committed and helpful he is and the places he finds to advertise for us never ceases to amaze me; I remember looking at your Xbox Live profile recently, Todd, and noticing the link to us. That genuinely made me and my missus smile.
Wow, I must have wrote a heck of alot... I was hoping to cover this in just a few lines... didn't mean to write out my life story. Ha!
But yeah... if everyone would be kind enough to respond and let me know that you've read this and would be willing to help then that would be fantastic. I don't mean to sound so negative but the fact that this is my full time job and it is incredibly stressful at the moment. Your help is essential. I never want to have to close down a single site under my network, especially this one, but I desperately require your help in this guys.
Thank you for reading.
Edit: You'll have to excuse the punctuation and grammar errors - I'll be damned if I'm gonna' go through all that again to try and fix 'em!
Long story short: Add links to us (Fable 2) whenever you can. Forum signatures are a great start. Every little helps! Thanks.
