Problem with mod removal.

I'm having trouble removing installed mods after backing up the usual files (game.bin, etc.) and have even tried re-installing the game (deleted the fable folder as well). Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT : Well, it seems my hunch about UAC was right. It seems that although you need UAC on to install mods, you need UAC off to get rid of them. If anyone else that has Vista and also has the same problem, you can toggle UAC on or off by going to Control Panel > User Accounts > User Account Control. Thanks for all the input guys.

Re: Problem with mod removal.

Are you sure you are putting the bigs and bins in the correct folders?
Just in case you need them, here are their locations:

You copy the back-up files into their respective folders. These are the default folders and should be the same for anyone I think.

game.bin and script.bin go here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\data\CompiledDef s

graphics.big goes here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\data\graphics

textures.big goes here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\data\graphics\pc

text.big goes here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\data\lang\Englis h

effects.big goes here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters\data\Misc\pc

Re: Problem with mod removal.

^I suppose you missed the part where I mentioned that I did a complete reinstall.

Re: Problem with mod removal.

Well i dont think what u say its possible. Try to delete and reinstall Fable Explorer. And delete your savegame files. Maybe if you do this it will work.

Delete FE huh? Sounds like a good idea. I'll try it, thanks.

EDIT : Tried both, but no luck.

Re: Problem with mod removal.

maybe he somehow copied the modded game files and installed them on the cd? i'm not good with techie stuff it's just an idea.

Re: Problem with mod removal.

make sure everything is deleted and nothing is there: saves, game.bin all the other stuff
how did you unistall it? that could be source of the problem.

My most recent uninstall consisted of deleting my FE folder (though I'm not sure how that could affect my install), then uninstalling Fable(yes, I did click the saves, tattoos, screenshots box). Then making sure nothing that was Fable, such as the folder, existed. I proceeded to start a new game, only to find my mods were once again still there. I'll try again once more tonight. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: Problem with mod removal.

Did you delete your backups and stuff? Try defragging the computer after you uninstall, then run a disk cleanup. Are you sure you've fully uninstalled it, leaving no trace?

Re: Problem with mod removal.

Okay, here is an idiots guide, not that I'm calling you an idiot:

  1. Uninstall fable, saves, tattoos, and all
  2. Go to my documents then you will see a my games folder, delete it.
  3. Go to program files and delete the Microsoft games folder.
  4. Reinstall fable
If you follow these instructions, then you should be fine.

Re: Problem with mod removal.

why did you not go to add/remove programs and remove it from there?

Right, it is the guide written by an idiot.

How come no one has bothered to ask this guy what OS he is on?

Vista. I have suspected that having UAC on or off might be an issue.

Being a Vista user, more than a reinstall is in order. Truly, you should have learned more about your OS before deciding to mod. Not having Vista myself, and not knowing what damage has been done, and not knowing how to fix it, I cannot help you. All I have compiled is a preparation for Vista modding thread. But you have gone beyond that and so, as already mentioned, I cannot help.

Perhaps someone here with Vista and a bit of previous experience can lend you a hand. If no one here can do that, get in touch with this guy, tell him I referred you, and after he tells you what it is you need to do, share with us here so that we will know in the future.

Well to be quite honest, the "preparation" of getting mods into Fable on Vista was less than common sense. Thanks for the referral, however. I'll be sure to ask him.

EDIT : Problem solved.
