RCA plugs

so i was looking in the back of my tv and saw that it had the norm. red yellow and white rca female plugs, but it also has green red and blue, now i thought the green red and blue was for HD and my tv is not an HD tv so i plugged my 360's red green blue male rca plugs along with the red yellow and white plugs... good idea or bad idea?

Re: RCA plugs

Did you get a picture? Red, Blue, and Green is component and only handles the video (you'd still need the Red & White composite cables plugged in for the Left & Right audio channels). It won't do anything bad if the yellow cable is plugged in also.

Your TV should probably have a channel you can turn to for the component ports.

Re: RCA plugs

yeah i have a picture, i just wanted to know if i have all the plugs pluged in would that screw up my tv and or 360 or just give me a better picture, also my tv is a tube tv i swear is was the last one made... but a tube tv cant be a HD tv...?

Re: RCA plugs

They have HDTVs out there that aren't the usual flat-screen, but I don't know for certain if yours is HD or not. Nothing bad will happen to your TV or 360 with the composite cable still plugged in (and no, having both plugged in does not increase picture quality), if it's not HD then you should at least get some better colors with the component port. Also, make sure you have the switch on the 360's cable (I forget which one it is) switched to HDTV instead of TV and see if you still get a picture if you haven't done so already and fiddle with the video settings in the System Settings on the dashboard.

Re: RCA plugs

oh ok so ill be fine with all the plugs pluged in right?

Re: RCA plugs

Just White and Red (of the composite side), otherwise you won't have any audio.

so i can take out the yellow and still have good (better?) picture? do i need to change any settings on my 360?

Re: RCA plugs

Take out the yellow, change the switch on the 360's cable from TV to HDTV. Turn on your Xbox, and go to System Settings, then Console Settings, Display, then HDTV Settings.

The option to choose 720p should then be available, pick that.

No, it won't do anything to your TV. When you change it to 720p in the Display settings the screen will go black and it will attempt make use of your component cables, if it doesn't work then it will automatically go back to 480p. If you've turned the switch to HDTV and power the Xbox on only to be greeted by a black screen, then your TV does not support HD (thus, you switch it back to TV).

No harm done.

Re: RCA plugs

Edit: i dont have an HDMI cable or any thing hooked up to my tv

Don't need one. I don't even have one for my 360, I have Component (Red, green, blue) and Composite (Red & White) hooked up to our HDTV.
