Red Rings of Death *sigh*

rrod.jpg

Yeah my 360 is starting to flash the red rings from time to time. I can reboot it once it does and it works again, but I fear this is a sign of worse things to come.

So, anyone else had the major breakdown and had to send it in? What I'm worried about is the hard drive with all my saved games and stuff - if they give me a new console, would that mean a new (empty) hard drive as well?

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

you dont send in your hard drive so you still have it, its easy aswell to send in i had my back inn a week

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

We got ours back pretty quick although we're now paranoid it'll pack in again. It gets a bit iffy with the disk tray now...please don't die!!!

Sorry to hear that Tsuyu :(

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

Yeah, like cometo said. You're not supposed to send in your hard drive, especially if you don't want to. ah the poor people who actually did that for nothin'.

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

ctj is correct - you don't need to send in your Xbox 360 hard drive unless Microsoft tech support specifically request it. Also, just in case you were thinking it, don't attempt yo use the infamous "Towel Trick" as a means for a quick fix because it will come back and bite you in the pooper. Send your Xbox 360 to Microsoft so they can properly fix it while you're still within warranty.

And sorry to hear you're the latest victim of the Red Ring of Death, Tsuyu. :(

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

I hope I don't become the next victim

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

You'll be fine, Markie. -_- I still have the older model, and it's doin' just fine... although the disc tray is being a nuisance.

Yeah my disc tray is a pain in the *** too.

Sorry to hear about your predicament Tsuyu, yet another victim of the RROD. :(

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

Well, "soon-to-be" victim I suppose. It still functions, but it gets the odd hang-up with the red lights flashing, as I said. Hopefully it won't cave in anytime soon.

Anyway, how does one "remove" the hard drive...?

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

my old consloe is the monster. it would scratch my disces to the max. those big deep round scratches. got a new one tho. seph you got a 360 woop woop

You just push the button on the front of the hard drive and lift it out.

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

Heh, never gone into the practical technical side of the 360 - where would one find that button?

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

how did you put the hardrive in lol

Right on the top of the console its small round thing between the part of the top with the holes in and the actual hard drive itself. Cant miss it really.

Ironically, me, from Sweden, the home of "some assembly required", I got it all fixed up when I bought it. :P

Thanks Drakan, will hopefully not need that advice though...:'(

Not a problem. ^_^

Hope you never need it either.

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

Explained it better than I ever could, DD. +rep

And, don't worry, Tusyu. I'm useless with techy stuff, too. I had to watch a YouTube video on how to remove the Xbox 360 hard drive when mine red ringed on me. :P

I didn't get the Red Ring of Death, as such, I got the less common E-74 Red Ring of Death error which looks like this:

I had to have a whole new motherboard fitted. But it's cool because I didn't have to pay a penny and hopefully it will mean that my Xbox 360 will be able to last another year and I won't need to buy another one until the new quieter and more reliable "Jasper" chipset models are released.

Re: Red Rings of Death *sigh*

Dunno what the error I get is called. I guess it is "second-degree RRoD", as it isn't fatal(yet). :P

From what I remember, it was only the older models which were pronged to dying so easily. The newer models have had a %16 percent failure rate.. I think.

You would know if it's the newer model if it has a quieter fan. ^_^

As opposed to mine which sounds like a space shuttle at lift off when reading the disc.
