Scratched my disk

Harken, sit around the hearth and lend me your ears so I may tell you a tale of desperation and deep sorrow.

I woke up yesterday to find my xbox was still on from staying up WAAAY too late playing DAO (Addicting) and I decided I would shut it off for an hour or two and then put my xbox through a long and grueling alternating session of L4D2 and DAO, and as I was getting up I tripped and my brain, thinking "Oh dear lawdy grab somethin'" slammed down onto the xbox, I hear a very faint "Whirrrr" and the screen freezes up. I think to myself "No biggy, just knocked it into a freezeframe." and after keeping it off for 2 hours (Figured extra caution was needed for the aforementioned beating of my beloved) I decided it was time. So DAO goes through the normal intro of Morrigan and that guy (I assume is Alistair or The Warden?) in metal with the dragon of blood, etc, it instead cuts to many different colored bars (The ones you used to see on tv's when they didn't have a signal) and then goes to the select screen (Play, Options, Load, normal stuff.) and when I press play, the options dissapear and the xbox then proceeds to tell me "Can't read the disk. You messed up big time, moron." and tells me to try cleaning it or restarting the xbox, both of which I tried to no avail.

The forumy has never failed anyone with it's vast knowledge, and there's bound to be someone on here who can tell me how to get this CD working again. (It'll be a few days before I can get to Best Buy and pick up some of that spray, so in essence I was hoping there was a way to fix it beforehand.) Any help would be appreaciated and rewarded with +rep.

Re: Scratched my disk

Well y'see, someone else told me that but never specified where. (Gamestop, Best Buy?)

But in any case, the scratch is about 3 inches long, a centimeter in, and when I hold it up to the light I can't see the scratch from the other side.

I'm not sure what they could do about it and I'm not American so I don't know what your local retailer might be. But I'm sure you can have it done cheaply at most games retailers.

Re: Scratched my disk

I had it done for one of my games at GAME, equivalent of Gamestop I guess and it cost like £2 to get it done and it only took 5 minutes. I'm pretty sure Gamestop will be able to do it m8. Also I have had no probs with my game disk since I had the scratches removed. They didn't use a spray tho to fix it they had a machine that relayed the disk.

false. circular scratches are irreparable. if you tried to trade it in to a gamestop they would not accept it, versus a regularly scratched game which they would refurbish. also, gamestop does not do disc repairs, they would only sell you a product that you would have to take home to use. if anything i would try a dvd rental store, the disc cleaning machines they have are hardcore.

i hate to say it but your game has passed on. the only advice i can give to prevent future tragedies is that if your xbox is laying like

l
l

then you should put it like

---

instead. gives it a better center of gravity so the problem is less likely to happen.

sorry for your loss :(

Re: Scratched my disk

The center of my Guitar Hero 3 disk is all cracked and bits are coming off as if it has shattered. It plays great though!

Got The Orange Box cleaned but it made no difference. So I sold it at Gamestation haw haw.

I had the xbox like --- before having it like that was cool.

I buried the game in the backyard, and am in the process of getting another.

*Sniff* It was a good CD. I'm sorry it had to end like this...:'(

Thanks for the help guys, I appreaciate it.

Now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to watch Dirty Dancing, Listen to Diana Ross and reminisce about all the good times that game and I had together.

A centimeter deep? I'm not sure you realize how big that measurement actually is.

I'm not sure he means deep, I think he means from the outside of the disk, 1cm towards the centre. Like the longitude and latitude of the scratch on the disk?

Understood.

I was going to say - it sounded like he was playing Xbox LP Record games.
