Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

As many of you know, Bioshock 2 (released in February 2010) will have Online multiplayer just like Halo and Call of Duty.

The question is, should it be online?

I think it might ruin the originality of the game.

Discuss?

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

I dont think Bioshock needs an online mode. Its a story driven shooter and should sell on the story alone. A tacked on multiplayer experience might lower the scores it gets and dampen the experience a little.

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

Normally I would say no. Look at Halo, which was originally a story-driven game. By Halo 3, the story was rubbish, whereas the multiplayer was the real selling point.
HOWEVER, the Bioshock multiplayer is being developed by a different company, which means the main developers can focus on the single player experience. Plus the multiplayer looks like it'll have some cool additions.

Halos multiplayer made it stand out from the start though. I mean if Halo didnt have co-op play i dont think it would have been the huge seller it was to begin with.

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

I think there's a mode where you can "Capture The Little Sister" like CTF. I hope they don't mess it up, and as you said, if a different company is working on the multiplayer... At least that gives the others more focus on the story.

As Drakan said, I bought Halo 2 because I heard it was Online and Halo 3 for the same reason. ODST not having online put me off big time. Halo is a multiplayer game now. Always will be.

Capture the sister looks INSANE. I like how you can choose your character, and the pre-game lobby is rumoured to be an interactive apartment, with machines to upgrade your person, weapons, and buy items.

I know, but I thought the story in Halo 3 was poor compared to the other two games.

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

i enjoyed bioshock as a single player, story driven shooter. a lot of bioshocks great story telling mechanics and presentation would be ruined by, say, you're friend dry humping a splicer who is trying to introduce a wrench to your brain.

playing with friends is fun... but a game with a story like bioshock would take a heavy beating from it.

the online isn't Co-op, it's PvP, with it's own baackstory.

Yeah. Apparantly, Online has it's own storyline. With a narrator.

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

^ It doesn't have a narrator. It has an answering machine! Each level you go up in Bioshock 2 Multiplayer will unlock messages on your machine in your apartment, filling in the backstory of the Civil War.

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

i havent looked in to the new bioshock game all i ever see is pvp game play - is there a story? or is it just an online game?

Re: Should BioShock 2 Be Online?

Bioshock 2 has a story, being developed by 2K.
However, it also has multiplayer PvP, being developed by Digital Extremes, I think.
It's gonna be good.
