just go to Bowerstone South... that guy standing right inside the door is selling shovels...

also, on an amusing note, I once dug up a shovel... I don't remember where, but I do remember it being ridiculous...
but I also got a back full of chocolates... my Fable is a demonic Fable where up is down and salad wears pants...

The guy at the graveyard also gives you one...I think so, anyway - could be utterly wrong about this...still, better to buy one early on in the game rather than wait until you get to Lychfield...

You can also buy one in Oakvale. But, I agree with Hex and Angel. Bowerstone is the best place to get it so you don't have to back track to find dig spots and you have enough keys when you get to the various chests. I also suggest you go to Fisher Creek early in the game for the same reason.

No it was on our 360's and we havent modded them in any way.

The 360 huh? With the Xbox Fable game? Perhaps an easter egg or two when played on the 360 then, because looking at them they do actually look designed and not utter random crap that one would expect from some glitch.

I think there is just a conflict in the programming somewhere as when i restarted the console things were fine again....

It's not a lack of gold, I've got over 60k
But it won't give me the option to buy one, and I have no idea why

Are you sure you don’t already have one? Considering how clunky the menu system is it can be hard to miss.
