So, anyone else going to college?

I just went to my stupefying and occasionally interesting orientation for UMD-- University of Maryland for those of you who, to your misfortune, don't know about it. And not that pale imitation, UMBC (which may be University of Maryland Baltimore Campus, or possibly County or maybe City or it could be College, or, and I admit this is unlikely, Baltimore Carp); or the admittedly-awesome-but-not-really-UMD UMES (Eastern Shore, long-ago-formerly known as Princess Anne Academy); but the real UMD, in College Park.

AAAnyway, I was wondering if any of the rest of you are starting college this year; or enlisting in the military, or getting abducted by aliens, or anything else interesting?

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

This is going to be my last year at college or at the 'Gymnasium' in Sweden...

Fun fun fun. I suspect that it's going to be a long four years, though I could be wrong.

Out of curiosity, how does yours work? After 13 years of (usually) public school those of us who want degrees apply to whatever college... which costs. Lots.

When you quit the 9:th grade in Sweden, you have 3 years at the 'Gymnasium' to go through. After that you're free to do whatever you want.

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

Did my college course years ago and really enjoyed my time there and got my pass for it. Planned to go back and then go to University to get more qualifications but i got a job and life took a different course in other ways.

Nah, my GPA was a pillar of mediocrity-- 3.-something-or-other. Thanks, though. The years were looooooong? Is it just me or does that sound like a bad sign?

It`s the same here. I`m going to the last, 12th grade, this fall. After that, I do have a plan to go to a university/college (whatever). But, at the moment, I`m not quite sure what I want to do there.

Maybe work for some months and then go do my military service and after that, I would be free to go to whatever schools I want. We`ll see.
I`d like to do something connected to art, but it`s hard to get in.

Sorry. Didn't mean to make it sound like anything bad. The experience of college is what YOU make of it. It's really that simple. For me, it was just a ticket to punch to get to graduate school. lol

For the record though, the college you are going to will get you a higher "out of the box" salary than most, should you decide to become employed in the professions after you graduate. Just a tidbit of info, if you didn't already know. :)

Sheffield Uni is pretty awesome - social life rocks and the main city is pretty cool. My mate was there for 4 years and when I went to visit the place it was great. She loved it and the standard of education she received was high (she turned down an offer for Cambridge because she wanted to go up north so it had to be damn good education wise to keep up with her).

Portsmouth has had some good reviews from friends I've known there...it can depend on what you want to study too, I suppose...

Thanks for the addendum. And no, I don't know, because I'm not entirely sure I WILL be graduating from UMD. I might be transferring elsewhere to do Naval Architecture, or I might end up staying and doing Aerospace. But I have lots of time, so I don't need to worry about anything except getting caught the **** up on math.

I'm actually kinda-sorta-if-you-look-at-it-right considering the same. We don't have mandatory military service (it sounds like you do) but I'm considering transferring to the Coast Guard Academy or trying their version of a Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship. (Note on our Coast Guard: Unlike a lot, our Coast Guard is damn big; and a branch of our military, even though they do more law enforcement and search and rescue and such than fighting.)

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

Yes, our military service is mandatory, but it`s only 8 or 11 months. My friend is a big military fan and even plans to become an officer after his service.

Still, I might not get in, maybe my I´m not in proper shape physically, I suspect that I might have some blood pressure issue.

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

Whatcha gonna study, Walker?

(I didn't bother reading any of the previous posts, so stfu if this has already been answered)
