So, anyone else going to college?

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

Pretty sure I already said this, yes, but I plan to do either naval architecture (I wanna build boats) or aerospace engineering (I wanna build planes). The problem is that UMD has a damn good aerospace program, but it doesn't have naval architecture. So for that I would have to go elsewhere.

You're 18-- are you going to college/already there/enlisting in the marines/jumping off a bridge?

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I'm going into my Senior year, then I am going to fill my pre-requisite classes at a Community College.

And as much as you and I both want me to take a leap off a bridge, I am sorry but it's not time yet.

Wait-- you're going into your senior year of high school? Huh. Sorry, thought you were my age/a bit older for some reason.

Yeah, it might have actually been better if I had done that (community college)-- cheaper, at least-- until I decided for sure WHAT I wanted to do, but the fact that I've wanted to go to UMD as long as I can remember wanting to go to college kinda biased me.

Nah, I don't you want to jump off a bridge. Just thought I'd put the idea out there. See, I would much rather you joined the Marines and went to get your ass shot. (no, not really, I just think I'm funny.)

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I am 18.

You are not funny.

Mobil Gas can go **** themselves.

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

wow... until I saw about you turning 18 a few weeks ago I always assumed you were mid-20s or smething... not a year older than me!

As for what I am studying (not that i was asked, but you all secretly want to know) Genetics, preferably huan or medical. really don't want to spend my life deeloping a new type of rice, that wil never be used incase it destroys the world... :realmad:

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

Man... stem cells can fix anything...

Anyway, I want to go to uni and do a double degree. Music and something that actually gets me qualifications.

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

Rice that destroys the world? Sounds like my kind of research :D

Genetics sounds fascinating - if I wasn't so scientifically retarded in every possible way that's something I would have liked to learn more about.

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I went to ITT (DON'T GO THERE!) for 3 years. I was studying Multi-Media/Game Design.
I stopped going for a few reasons. I was planning on moving somewhere far away and didn't want to be in mid-course, I found out that you don't get a diploma just a certificate (thats basically worth nothing) and I was paying so much to go to this school that was crappy and small. Oh and ITT Tech credits don't transfer in case you moved somewhere, not even to other ITT Tech campus'. I was thinking of going to IVY Tech for Architecture, but I don't think they have the courses where I'm at.

A funny note. Two of my sisters are starting school tomorrow, one is starting kinder garden and the other is starting Junior High (7th grade).

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I don't really do college, it's more of a 6th form here now but yeh then after that two years, either Uni or Police work. :D

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

the trouble with doing genetic is that for ones UCAS application (the organisation that does the whole 'applyage' stuff) requires a personal statement (unis want actual ppl, not biological computers...) and generally they want you to have some experience of your feild before you go, such as doing first aid and helping out at a surgery (local mini-hospital thing not an actual surgery) for medicine , or working at a stable for equine studies or w/e. how the hell am i supposed to get experience in genetics? all i can do is read and hope for the best...

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I think with a specialist field like that perhaps a personal statement of experience won't be as important? Or you can list what you've been reading and maybe see if there are any facilities you can ask to shadow? Even somewhere like Janssen-Cilag might be suitable? They are based near my old town in Buckinghamshire so are probably too far for you to go but maybe they can point you in the right direction? They are essentially a pharmaceutical company but do have research facilities for things like myeloma which relies on stem cell research...probably not what you want but they might be able to tell you where to go next? Janssen-Cilag.

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

oo! that could be good. as for the distance, if i could work it to be in holidays i could stay w/ me dad! +rep for a very useful idea that i probably will waste! :D

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

i am going into 10th grade but my older brother is going to St. Johns Pharmacy School and my younger sister is going into 7th grade

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I'm going into the last year of primary school

Re: So, anyone else going to college?

I wish I´d know what I`d like to do after school. What to study.

I guess I have to consult with my art teacher about possibilities related to art.
Also, I`m a plant person, I like plants for some reason.

I think I said something really confusing!? I`m not ten, I`m eighteen.
 Please enlighten me on what I said wrong.

Edit: was "What to study" part confusing? I meant what should I study at college/university after high school.
