Re: Sony Say No Price Cut Or 80Gb PS3 For Europe
So what was made to look like a gesture of good will to give the consumer a $100 break now turns out to be just a clearance sale that ultimately lowers the value of the machine that most of there base has purchased. No wonder Microsoft hasn't budged on price Sony really hasn't either.
Microsoft said them selves that they were already working on the next system due out 2012. That would make it a seven year system not too bad. If Sony sticks to their guns on the 10 year thing the PS3 will still be available until 2016. Are they going to have the PS3 and 4 out for four years and sink that one as well. Microsoft will most likely have there next gen console Xbox 720? out before Sony again unless perhaps the PS3 really is a bust and Sony is forced to ramp up production for the PS4 which would really through egg in their face.
The idea that Technology made ten years ago is still great for gaming today is pretty crazy when you consider the rate that technology changes.
I think Sony is starting to realize that they might have to settle for third place in this generation and they are starting to get desperate.
Once the whole RROD thing settles down, because Microsoft has pretty much figured it out how to handle the heat problem, they can almost say with pride that the 360 is so good that some gamers are willing to go through 13 of them and still come back for more. Can you think of any other product that someone would go through that much **** to have. THE PS3?
Microsoft figured out why the PS1 and 2 were so successful and the stepped in to the slot. All things being equal, If you get your console to market first, the games will be available for it and the console will sell, so more games will be available for it, so the console will sell, so...

When have Microsoft ever said the 360 was a 10 year product? Only Sony said the PS3 was a ten year product, they put words in Microsofts mouth that they didnt even say. I think its crazy for them to be giving the PS3 a ten year lifespan. Average console is out of date in 5 years and at the rate technology is moving in 10 years Microsoft could bring out another console with all new tech.
Also:
What they fail to realise is that the Xbox 360's HD DVD player is an add-on and they could just as easily make a Blu Ray player add-on for the 360.... Also it was Sony that had 3 different models of PS3 and 2 of them are being dropped in US... So whos got the inconsistent design there?
