The first few times I tried to do this quest, Ferret tells his men to attack and closes the door... and nothing happens. Except my dog barking at some treasure. Exit basement, try again, same result. Hmm.
How I finally completed it was to pick up the book from the table (on the left hand side of cellar room) BEFORE going into the glowing circle.
Also, I copied the Fable III disc to my hard drive so it doesn't have to read the disc constantly, although I'm unsure if that has anything to do with it finally working for me. I think it's more about picking the book up before you go into the circle.
