Sprited Away - and a question.

I remember seeing it for the first time in around 2002/03 in English dub. I was scared of No Face back then ^_^.

I watched it again last night on BBC4 (Japanese with subtitles) and It's an amazing film.. But.. It's retarded, in a good way.

I just want to know where the hell the Japanese get their ideas from.

Spirited Away
- People turning into pigs.
- Large headed women with evil twin.
- Stink Gods.
- Man that looks like a spider offering jobs to humans.
- Boys turning into dragons.
- Lamps with feet.
- A guy with "No Face" (mentioned above) eating people and offering gold.
- Big toads.
- Talking frogs.

They must just sit around a table, take magic mushrooms and smoke weed all day until one of them gets an idea.

Anyway...

Most of those things are/are based on/inspired by spiritual creatures/monsters taken from Japanese, or Far Eastern in general, mythology.

Yeah, I always seem to forget how a lot of other countries involve culture in there films. Seems to be the western part of the world that doesn't.

Dunno about that. A lot of animated movies from Sweden involves the Norse mythology, as well as more modern mythology.

yeah i saw it a while back on cartoon network? well i liked it saying i was going to hate it but i thought it turned out good and was interesting. darn, now you're making me want to watch that urrr.

Spirited Away and Howel's Moving Castle are 2 very good Ghibli films, it's kinda hard to believe they made Porco Rosso too. that was one of the first animes i saw, in 1996.
